Christian Peacemaker Teams - please pray for Iraqi hostages

Check out www.cpt.org. CPT comes out of some western Mennonites denominations. A church local to me (who I hear have been considering joining a Bretheren denomination) has an elder who's mother is currently negotiating with the Swords of Truth Brigade (I think its called) for the release of the 4 CPT hostages. The Brigade has charged them with spying... nothing could possibly be further from the truth. If it were't for the gravity of the situation, such an accusation would be downright hilarious.

They were kidnapped on 11/26 and the media has all but forgotten about them. But, the Church hasn't. You can read thier story on the CPT front page I mentioned above. Also, BBC News has a few article on them if you search for "Christian Peacemaker Teams". Please pray for their captors, for them and the people of Iraq.

Praying for their release despite wholeheartedly disagreeing with their stance. Even with such a insidious political stance (not regardng peace but their extreme words and strange views), they do not deserve what they are enduring nor what they could endure.

I appreciate your wanting to pray for them, even especially more if you disagree. However, how is CPT doing anything insidious? How are they seeking to harm or beguile anyone? These are people who put themselves in harm's way to protect those who are essentially innocents caught up in the middle of violent conflict... being as committed to peace without participating in the violence-begetting violence, the self-preservative violence, which soldiers trust in. They are not looking to force politics - in fact I think you mistake their getting caught up in things as having a human "political stance" or agenda. They have no other motive than to protect those who have been marginalized by the powers and principalities of this world. CPT's concerns have little to do with politics or taking sides and everything to do with godly justice, true shalom.

Those fighting in Iraq, the Sunni, the Shia, the Kurds, the Iraqi and US Armies, they care about their own, respective political agendum above all else. CPT isn't pushing for Sunni victory, or Shia victory, or more or less clout or oil for the US or even for democracy or even the State of Iraq as a political entitiy. CPT cares about the people getting who are being abused by the fighting for those agendum.

I don't think you understand their "stance"... or for some reason do you feel threatened by a christian simply wanting to uplift the despised and rejected in this world?
