Very true.

Places like General Apologetics serve a purpose (providing entertainment for many people like myself) but they are not really the types of places to have productive discussions with people earnestly curious about Christianity.

Being able to post in places like the congregational forums or Christian theology sections is great for seekers.

He must have a hang glider :D

I think non-christians posting is AWESOME! It's a great outreach and a great place for people to get answers.

I would only stipulate that non-Christians are genuinely seeking and asking questions with a RESPECTFUL attitude. Flaming someone for their faith is not respectful...it's mean. What's the point in that? Those people are not genuinely seeking answers they're just trying to stir the pot so that they can proove their point that Christians are "nuts".

I think what Lee put out there addresses this issue. He's trying hard to make things better. Not everyone is going to be happy, but at least he's hearing us. I give him a lot of credit for that!

I agree with both of you with regards to non-Christians posting. Unfortunately it's hard to draw the line, but I would be fine with those who are seeking being permitted to post, but that if someone tries to bash Christianity or start a debate, the mods may delete their post/thread immediately.

Personally, even that is not my biggest concern (though I don't think you were posting this for me).

You and I both know that Catholic & non-Catholic are NOT going to agree on who is right and who is wrong. Period. I, for instance, do not for one minute "buy it" that Peter was the first Pope, or that papal succession is anything but a man-made dogma. That's the nature of the beast.

However, discussions can be held in a civil manner, and be brought to an immediate end if/when that civility is lost.

And the civility, more than any other one thing, is what has been completely lost on this forum in recent months. There are nasty, hostile and abusive posters who need to be banned. Period. Civility MUST be restored, or good members will continue to leave.
I think we have to sit back and think why it was lost and from a Godly view WHO had a hand in it being lost.

It wasn't you, I just thought it was a good segue. And while I appreciate a good football conversation as much as the next person (Go BC), I want to make sure that we remain as on topic as possible. Lee will never get to the end of this thread if we keep going around and around the same circles. It only gives him more to read, but doesn't cover more ground.

I am anxious for more information. I want to know the next step, but it isn't going to come if we don't stop for a minute and give Lee a chance to catch up.

I think the changes are a step in the right direction. i'm in a state of limbo personally, as my team is no more, so I'm wondering what will happen with me.
You should be reinstated to the debate team, of course. :)

ETA: Drat! The joke was already taken. Teach me to read all the way to the end of the thread first!

post quoted gone, so instead here's something I thought was funny:
Because of misunderstandings that frequently develop when northerners and
Californians come to the South, the Tourism Council of Southern States has
adopted a new policy. In an effort to help outsiders understand the rural
Southerner's mind, the following list will be handed to each person as they
enter any southern state.

1. That slope-shouldered farm boy did more work before breakfast than you
do all week at the gym.

2. It's called a "gravel road." No matter how slow you drive, you're going
to get dust on your Lincoln Navigator. I have a four-wheel drive because
need it. Either drive yours or get it out of the way.

3. Any references to "corn fed" when talking about our women will get you
whipped...by our women...and you won't enjoy it.

4. Go ahead and bring your $600 Orvis Fly Rod. Don't cry to us if a catfish
breaks it off at the handle. We have a name for those little 13-inch trout
you fish for --- we call them "bait."

5. Pull your pants up. You look like an idiot.

6. If that cell phone rings while a bunch of mallards are making their
final approach, we will shoot it. You might hope you don't have it up to
your ear at the time.

7. No, there's no "Vegetarian Special" on the menu. Order steak. Order it
rare. Or you can order the Chef's Salad and pick off the two pounds of ham,
turkey, and cheese. Yeah, we have sweet tea. It comes in a glass with two
packets of sugar and a long spoon.

8. No.... we don't eat too much here. We just know how to eat. Our men
don't get big and strong here by chewing on organic celery sticks while
drinking a chai tea latte. They grow up big and strong by eating their
mama's home-made meat loaf, real mashed potatoes with gravy, corn on the
cob from their garden, home-made biscuits, followed off by a few slices of
home-made apple pie made with apples from the orchard and a big healthy
glass of whole milk from our award winning dairy cows.
As to how we work off what we eat, see #1 above.

9. You bring Coke into my house...it had better be brown, wet, and served
over ice.

10. So you have a $60,000 car. We're real impressed. We have a quarter
million dollar combine that we use two weeks a year.

11. Let's get this straight. We have one stoplight in town. We stop when
it's red. We may even stop when it's yellow.

12. Our women hunt, fish, and drive trucks--because they want to. So,
you're a feminist. Isn't that cute.

13. Yeah, we eat catfish and turtle. You really want sushi and caviar? It's
available at the bait shop.

14. They are pigs. That's what they smell like. Get over it. Don't like it?
Interstate 40 goes two ways--Interstate 95 goes the other two. Pick one and
use it accordingly.

15. So every person in every pickup waves. It's called being friendly.
Understand the concept?

16. Yeah, we have golf courses. Don't hit in the water hazards. It spooks
the fish.

17. That State Trooper that just pulled you over for driving like an
idiot...his name is "Sir"...no matter how old he is.

18. No that is not Bambi standing in that cornfield. It is a deer and yes,
we shoot them and eat them here. You want low-fat meat? There's nothing
better than a lean venison steak. Don't like the fact that we shoot them?
Try to remember that the next time one runs across the road from out of
nowhere and it does $15,000 damage to your $60,000 SUV.

19. Cheese is it's own food group and yes, it goes with anything even apple
pie.

Have a nice Southern day!
tulc(just back from a cool birthday party) ;)
