  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Huh. In what context? That is to say, does he have any place within the Catholic tradition?
he is the Patron of soldiers and chivalry, i think modern orders of knights still call on him even though the modern orders are not militant but rather fraternal/charitable
I think in hispanic cultures he is invoked to help people get cured from disease. I am not sure about that though. Plus the story of St. George and the Dragon is a great story, it illustrates the truimph of good over evil

How many of you have the Christian Flag in your church? I did not even know that it was a wide spread thing untill I was in High School. My Mother is Methodist so I always saw it whenever we did anything at her church.
What do you guys think of the flag, do you think it is too close to the flag of the USA for it to really represent all of Christianity?

I've never seen or heard of a Christian flag before. I must have lived a sheltered life. ;)

I'm not sure what I think about it. I'll have to ponder that.

also, I do not know if this belongs in this thread, or if i should just make a new one, should the american flag be in churches?
That would be part of a larger question, should any national flag be in churches? My thought would be not: we don't attend church as citizens of our earthly nation, but as citizens of God's kingdom.

In every church that has flags I've been in the US flag is in the position of prominence (at the speaker's right side)~probably many don't know that, but would seem that if one uses a Christian flag it should be in the prominent position...just sayin'.

It hung in my old church, and in churches I visited. I could take it or leave it, personally.

What do you guys think of the flag, do you think it is too close to the flag of the USA for it to really represent all of Christianity?
No, not really. You might as well ask if it's too close to the Australian flag to represent all of Christianity; our flag is not the only flag with a canton in the upper left.

I think there's a related question that should be considered. Should politicians be allowed to speak from the pulpit? I believe President Clinton did, Carter too and maybe others. At the Word-Faith church I was formerly a member of politicians were recognized by our Pastor, but not allowed to speak and were not endorsed, at least not obviously. Anyone else have similar experiences or recollections about politicians in church?

I've never seen the Christian flag before, but it doesn't look like the US flag at all, IMO. I know individual churches have flags representing their church, but I've never seen a general Christian flag. I'm not sure what the purpose of a flag is, in a church setting.
