  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

How many of you have the Christian Flag in your church? I did not even know that it was a wide spread thing untill I was in High School. My Mother is Methodist so I always saw it whenever we did anything at her church.
What do you guys think of the flag, do you think it is too close to the flag of the USA for it to really represent all of Christianity?

I don't recall seeing one at my church, but then I never paid attn.
I'll try to think to look next week.

I don't think it resembles the USA flag all too much - at least not enough to make me think anything negatively about representation.
:)

This is our Christian Flag, the cross of St. George.

That's the England flag... cool! St. George is our patron saint :)

Rhamiel, have seen that flag somewhere... actually, it may have been here. Moo. Didn't realise it was the Christian flag, though. That's a nice thing to know

We also have a banner of St. George slaying the dragon next to our altar.
You're Anglican, yes? Does St. George hold special meaning within your tradition? I didn't think anyone outside of English history buffs would even have heard of him.

Except for the mennonite church I was in all congregations I've been part of have an American and a "Christian" flag up front...the American flags are always Martial flags too (gold fringes/braids)...not anything I particularly like to see up front~I view the Church as a global body not nationalistic.

My Church is named St. George's Anglican Church. I am a history buff too. Also, we have several people that attend our Church that are immigrants from England.

Our major fund raiser for our ladies group is a formal English Tea that we sell tickets for and which is always very successful.

Catholic churches do not have the Christian Flag, we have the flag of the Holy See and the American Flag

:)

It was actually designed in a protestant church in Brooklyn (1897?), inspired by the American flag.

It is basically the American-protestant flag. It is only found in North America and areas it was introduced to by missionaries (Africa/Latin America).

here is a link to a site with a Baptist flag, they claim the "Christian Flag" only represents Protestants and Baptists are not Protestant but come from a seperate line that started with the Apostles, Trial of Blood type stuff http://www.lakewoodparkbaptist.com/baptist_flag.htm

render unto caesar what is caesar, I pay my taxes and I vote, that is my civic duty. I try to educate myself so I can make an informed decision come election time, I think that is another part of civic duty for liberal democracy, but the Church is not of this world and as a Christian I am part of the Body of Christ, that is in all nations...
I am sorry Atlantians, I am just playing "devils advocate" I love my nation and I do not really mind a US flag in a church, it kinda rubs me the wrong way but it is no big deal.
you said
I really wish that we had a better looking flag.
cool, what would you pick for a christian flag? as for me? maybe something with the Chi Rho on it
chi_rho.jpg

but my mom thinks the Chi Rho looks "too catholic" lol, even though it was used in the "early church" and is used by the orthodox.
maybe about a month ago I was thinking of what the Christian Flag would look like if it was incorperated with the flag of the Holy See (vatican), and now i am thinking of some kinda ecumincal flag that combines the Christian Flag, the flag of the Holy See and the Coptic flag, but that would look way too crowded, and we would have to add something for the Eastern Orthodox too if we want it to be truley ecumenical lol

Ooh, a good English tea is a fine and noble thing. Yummy, too. What was included? Scones with cream and strawberry jam? Mind, if you were forced to eat cucumber sanwiches, I can only apologise...

Huh. In what context? That is to say, does he have any place within the Catholic tradition?
