Satan is mythical?
There's a part of me that's legitimately bothered by this, but then I realize I'm mostly not surprised by that revelation. At all.I've actually heard dispensationalists say that Galatians 5 is only supposed to apply during the "Millennium". Also the Sermon on the Mount.![]()
It's part of the fun of the Internet. Irony potent enough to be weaponized. That my views are correct and anyone who disagrees with me is wrong (and probably needs prayer before their soul ends up in hell).
Which is funny, because that is what this thread is about.![]()
What are some common sayings in Christian circles that are misconceptions when aligned with what The Bible really says about a topic? Here's one that I've been thinking about lately. Please correct me if I'm wrong. Name some that come to your mind too.
You've heard people talk about the love of God and how noone can fathom it. Well.. check out what Ephesians 3:16-19 says.
No,no, what I was saying is that the duslistic view of Satan vs God came out of Persia, it's why in the OT it's why idols are seen as the enemy of God and Satan is kind understood as, prosecutor, not an this great enemy like Christians or really even Paul understood him. We get out images of Satan out of Greek mythology.
i hate others sin
i like to judge people
i like to tell christians i am without sin and havent had a sin for over 3-4 years
God helps those who helps themself

Over-application of the whole idolatry thing by using it as if anything and everything is an idol to you if you're unhappy, all the while completely missing the fact that their own theology paints a portrait of God that completely contradicts the image of God revealed in Christ.
Yes! I'll never forget the time I was told that baseball was an idol for me because I missed church to watch the World Series.
What really bothers me about it is the lack of compassion that typically follows. There are a lot of examples of suffering people in the scriptures (people who wanted children, etc) who prayed for help, but they were met by God with compassion, not correction.
Which leads me to another one: missing church means you're a bad Christian.
Yup, correction has almost caused me to leave the church. Where is the love people, especially when I'm going through a rough patch and you barely know me?
God forbid we go through a hard time in life because then our faith is just not enough, you know.
The worst I have gotten is when someone told me their faith and walk was stronger and they should have been more careful at how they approached me. And a few other things I won't even get into.
Well, my faith feels pretty shattered at this point. I'm sure that makes me a horrible person to some people, at least I've gotten that impression. Yeah, I was attacked once by someone who didn't know what was going on. I wasn't comfortable telling them my struggles, and the attack further confirmed I would keep my mouth shut about it. That incidence, even though its been awhile, really hurt me. I keep telling myself that my faith is between God and me, and that even other Christians have faults. I have made the mistake of turning to other Christians who I thought would help me through my struggles, only to get the cold shoulder, "I'll pray for you" line, or not taken seriously. Thank God my family supports my issues with depression and anxiety, I dunno where I would be without their support.
