  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Well, in the ever-expanding world of what everyone here considers 'emo/indie', I'd suggest the following:

Copeland
Brandtson
Beautiful Mistake
old Dear Ephesus
Pedro the Lion

But stay away from The Juliana Theory....only their first release and half of their second release is worth listening to.

Further seems forever, lucerin blue, slow coming day...they're all groups on tooth and nail records that I bought albums from. But I haven't sat down and listened to one of them all the way through because it all sounds like unidentifiable slush. A lot of bands mentioned are in the same strain of the music world.

Just my opinion.

I do like pedro the lion, though, which is rather interesting, since Bazan usually doesn't do anything real different with the instrumentation. Just the last two releases (in particular) are astoundingly depressing. Thus, buy his early stuff, and experience the wonders of his songwriting on one of those glorious, rainy days.

If anybody is similar to pedro the lion, I vote for damien jurado, in part because it's one excellent lyricist running the show with an ever-changing supporting cast. Rehearsals for Departure is also quite stunning in its simplicity, and features a concertina in the first track.

But if you want to be really awesome, check out starfyler 59. They are the singular tooth and nail indie band that I can stand (pedro the lion released their first ep on t&n, but I don't think that counts now, does it?), and I have 13 records of theirs. Records that are simply too awesome: Leave Here a Stranger, Old, The Fashion Focus.

I like Anberlin a lot, so give them a go. New Relient K is fairly emo, so give "mmhmm" a listen. And an Australian band called Wishful Thinking are good too, but I don't think you can get much of their stuff, besides purevolume.com

Oh yeah, Celeste and The Awkward Romance are good too.

2nd Edit: lol, I just keep thinking of bands. Armageddon Sky are good and Antiskeptic are a big Australian christian band that you would love.
