  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I was wondering what makes a christian band? You have bands like U2 with christians in their group but you wouldnt find their CD in a christian bookstore. And you have bands that say there christian but arnt necisarilly christian. this post probably doesnt make alot of sense but oh well. My cousin told me about a show or documentary about a band (not sure of the name) that made a christian cd and marketed themselves as a christian band but where not really christian they just used the christian market as a way to establish themsleves. That makes me think of the band Chevelle. And another thing what happened to Pillar. There Fireproof album was great then they got signed to a new record company and i remember them saying how there lyrics would change and stuf like that but there new CD is not nearly the same as there Fireproof CD.

i wouldn't know how to answer that. all i know is alot of christain bands go into the secular market to be a better witness and such. take blindside for an example or switchfoot or even pillar as you mentioned. they still have their clear message but only they are doing it in the secular world. think about it what good is christs message of salvation to the already redeemed?

I think a "Christian band" is a band that identifies with the Christian community.
One of my favorite bands is Tourniquet. They are known as a "Christian" band because their lyrics reflect their faith and they identify themselves as Christian (both as a band and as individual members) but they aren't on a "Christian" label. They are on Metal Blade.

I also believe P.O.D. and Switchfoot are "Christian" bands (though P.O.D. members like to say that they are Christians in a rock band) because they identify themselves (as individuals - not necessarily as bands) as being Christians.
