  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Christian bands?

I really don't like the way the industry labels it "christian." Look at Creed, U2, the Alarm, Larryn Hill, Bob Dylan, Destiny's Child, Evanescence, and some others. They may have "christians" in their outfit, but they don't want to be labeled holy. They may have been ridiculed by the church and other religious people and stayed away from the christian industry. It's a shame. People are still judging others and offending them.

The ones who really want to honor God with what they play, and you can see that live if that is the case. Which those are I don't know, but I know some which I've seen. It's like asking which satanic bands are really satanic or just for the image (which is just silly) You can see/feel that live.

To answer your question, I'd be judging people where it is not my place to judge.

Think about that.

I don't think it's neccesarily judging people. If we were judging people we would be saying things like they aren't Christian and they are doing the wrong thing. I don't think anyone ever said anything like that. I just know that I would prefer to listen to music that is glorifying God. But it's a well known fact that bands often "claim to be Christian BUT sometimes they do things that are definitly not "Christlike"

I understand what you mean, but that's not unique to musicians, unforunately. A lot of Christians exhibit behaviour that isn't necessarily Christlike. I only try to concern myself with my own behaviour and actions, and not focus on others. If a musician I listen to isn't necessarily glorifying God when they write their music, it doesn't really affect me, since the song takes on meaning within my own heart.

I think if their lyrics are very deep and they talk about God and acknowledge what God is doing in their lives, then they are more than likely Christians. Some Christian bands seem a little shallow, but I'm not the judge. I don't really know the people, so I don't know.
