What does Hermes mean???

I think this is the closest i've come to Christian anime that i've found so far... and this anime isn't strictly about Christianity... it's about all religions, it seems. Any way, anyone know any other good anime that talks about Jesus, the bible, the laws??

I tracked it down, it seems to be called:

Ougon no Hou: El Cantare no Rekishikan | The Golden Laws

The site I found it on says that its made by an organisation called Kyoufuku no Kagaku, also known as The Institute for Research in Human Happiness which they called and I quote "Japan's answer to Scientology"

Ah Superbook. I was going to mention that, but then forgot the title. Isn't it one from the early 1980s? I have not seen it, admittedly, but I have heard that it is more or less solid, biblically. Is that true in your experience?

I haven't had an opportunity to watch Superbook, so, unfortunately, I can't speak for or against its accuracy.

see its annoying, because christian anime/manga is usually just a bit rubbish tbh, so i dont really wanna watch it ! or they will call it 'manga' but its actually a western comic, it really annoys me! come on christian manga artists, show us some good stuff!

Nextmanga produces a series of christian-related manga, which I find to be quite good. Perhaps you can check it up.

i am curious, is the intrepreataion wrong in the japanese comics or animation version of the story of Jesus? or do you mean that you do not like the style.

Im an artist my style of choice is anime Im working on some Christian mangas now, I have lots of ideas but... I still need to get through school lol... I want to attend SCAD... but just gotta wait on God's timing :] I kno he's gonna get me there ... and I'll see my mangas on tv, in movies and games .

And my brother is an artist as well and a christian too and he's working on some too .. but he's style is a bit more realistic. ... so theres hope , lots of it .... ah I get so excited sometimes..bc I have this character that Id really like my cousin to play and do her voice.. I think she'd be perfect for it.. [sorry for going on,i just get soo excited ]]

Superbook is pretty good. But they cut out quite a bit from the Bible and it's more designed for young kids so there is basically no violence. But still, I've been watching it again recently as somebody uploaded them all on YouTube. Tatsunoko actually did the art so it's technically a legit anime. LOL

The Flying House is focused on the gospels and epistles, as I recall, so that might be more up your alley.

One that might ruffle your feathers, but is very respectful and accurate about Jesus is Saint Young Men. It's more a slice of life thing and doesn't make any pretenses of talking about Christianity from a Christian perspective. The premise is Jesus and Gautama Buddha are roommates in tokyo and they have various whacky antics like a sitcom/slice of life. It's really popular in Japan, though I'm not sure how well it's sold relative to bigger titles.

Another one I've heard good things about is Manga Messiah, the first of 5 books in a series called Manga Bible, or Shinyaku Seisho in Japan.

One that is harder to find and is a bit less on the side of any kind of real accuracy, more about the creativity, is Let's Bible. Jesus in this is called Nazareth and is a woman. Not to mention all the disciples had descendants that seem to be all across the world: A Buddhist monk in Japan, a fisherman in Croatia, etc. It got cancelled, it seems, so we only got to see 4 of the 12.

I can't believe it's so hard finding fellow animators to collab with to create some new christian anime, that's 1) really good, 2) biblically based, and 3) actually DOES something besides entertain (like awaken 'the sleeping giant' within the church - you know, the spoiled, fat, lazy, naive, OSAS, church that's slowly appropriating the Matt 24:12 scenario - not the 'remnant' by any means).

Hey reply back if you're a (talented) animator, have some good ideas, and want to bear some fruit for the Kingdom based on an end time theme.

(Note: I've a lot on my plate and can only come back here if an animator is interested in collaborating together on something. I use Toon Boom Animate Pro and Anime Studio Pro).

I haven't seen much Christian anime or comics that I find entertaining... I myself am trying to do my own Christian comic about an exorcist boy, because I've experienced exorcisms and know a lot about demons, so I thought it would be cool. But I'm still lacking in the art department. I might post it up when I'm done with chapter one. Right now I dunno if I should color it or not.

Blue Exorcist is in that vein, though it isn't strictly Christian. I don't think D Gray Man makes the same sort of pitch with Christianity, though the imagery is there and Noah is referenced later, from what I understand

I think that, apart from Superbook and The Flying House (which proved to be not so popular), there are really no significant animes that represent the scriptures, Christ etc. However there are some animes, such as Evangelion, that use Christian imagery to appear cool.

As JRR Tolkien said, Christian allegorism does not need to be present in a book (or anime in this case) in order to deliver Christ's message of love, since The Bible already exists. This is why he shunned CS Lewis' efforts to incorporate Christianity into his novels (such as the Narnia series). Tolkien wrote the Lord of the Rings, which was criticized for being related to Wicca and paganism (much like Harry Potter), and despite all the fantasy, it is clear that LotR kept a hidden Christian message.

Thus, like Jesus' parables, an anime or form of media does not need to be explicitely Christian to covey the love and teachings of Christ, since no other book other than The Bible could do that. It is up to the viewer to interpret the anime, and see whether it agrees with their views.

I'm currently having a discussion over Angel Beats, an anime series which is often viewed as being anti-Christian, though I believe that it fits into what Tolkien talked about. I've tabbed the spoilers, but it would be interesting to see the views of those who've watched the series.

Hermes is the Ancient Greek messenger god. His Roman equivalent is Mercury. I don't know if he is the one mentioned in the anime.
The manga I know of with Christian themes are the mange series Joan which is about Saint Joan of Arc and there is also Kamikaze Kaitou Jeanne which has St Joan as a character and an "Ameri-manga" I took out of a library once that was Christian. There is a site called Baka-updates and it allows you to search for manga with a lot of different themes so it may be helpful.
