I am saying God gave you the ability to love or not love. If you chose to not love you are not doing the will of God. That has nothing to do with you being more powerful than God. God forces Himself on no one. We are all volunters if we are in the army of God.trippingK said:are you saying im more powerful than god?
Acts 11:16-18
So if God gave them the same gift as he gave us, who believed in the Lord Jesus Christ, who was I to think that I could oppose God?"

If you can chose not to chose, yes it is a choice. If you can chose not to love that is a choice, and it makes the choice to love valid and valuable.Yamialpha said:Question-if you only have one option when making a choice (and this is considering choosing not to choose as a choice), then by definition is it really a choice at all?
Yes God is love. Yes if we love we are acting like God and as God wills. There are two sides, the ones who love and the one who do not love. Actually the war is inside us and we chose minute by minute if we belong to the army of God or the great mutitude of humanity that is unloving.trippingK said:i thought God was love? therefor if we love we become more like God, wasnt that the main point of Jesus' message? "the greatest of these is love", and what is greater than God?
and when did it become an army? an army means there are two sides. in love there are no sides.
I think you are correct about the lack of love being hatred. It could also be indifference. You could however chose to help your neighbor if you saw that she needed your help. It is not either you love or you don't. It is you either chose to lose or you chose not to love. You did not always love your husband. You love him now because at some point in time you chose to love him. You don't just continue to love him but you continue to chose to love him.Garnet2727 said:The concept of "choosing to love" is just as foreign to me as the concept of "choosing to believe." I cannot choose a belief as demonstrated by the often used response of "then choose to believe the moon is made of green cheese." I either believe something or I don't. For me, love is the same. I either love or I don't. I love my husband, but I don't love my neighbor. My love for my husband is based upon our history and our relationship. My neighbor? Eh, she may be nice enough, I don't know, I rarely see her. I don't hate her either, I simply don't know her.
I think it's a false dichotomy to equate the lack of love with hatred.

I think you are correct that we are talking about different things when we talk about love. I see love as being concerned about the needs of others and willing to help others when we are able.Garnet2727 said:You're right about choosing to help my neighbor. Given my normal behavior, if she needed help, I would. I think maybe we have different defintions of love? To me, one of the aspects of love it is a deep abiding feeling that I could no more choose than whether or not I'm hungry. So while there are times I think my husband is an arsefardle, I still love him. You are correct to say that I didn't always love him, heck, for most of my life I didn't even know him. It's also true that I could cease to love him...say if he became abusive and beat me...then I would hate him. But, to me, it wouldn't be a choice, but a different powerful feeling.
What is your definition of love?

I get it...then by your definition, one could certainly choose. Thanks for clearing that up.
