CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

There is a nice science fiction short story along these lines. Two individuals in a spaceship travelling to Mars. A micro-meteorite hits the ship and damages some of the oxygen tanks. As a result there is enough air left for one to make it or two to die.
The choices: -
No good choices, although in my mind this is a no-brainer, one must choose to die, the difficult part is choosing how.
The choices: -
- Murder the other one
- One commits suicide
- Both die

Bad? I suppose you could call it bad, but if there are only two choices and one is less harmful or more beneficial that is the one I would take. If it means I have to face consequences I would not prefer then it does.

It'd depend on your interpretation of a "bad choice". Usually I think of a bad choice as making a choice when an alternate choice would be more beneficial. If you only have one choice then in that perspective it wouldn't really be a bad choice.

Yes. If it causes harm, than it is still a bad choice, even if you don't really have a better option. I look at war and ending negative relationships in this light.

I think that if it's the only choice you can make then it's just a choice, not good or bad. I don't think any reasonable person would fault you for the consequence, but if it's you're only choice then is it really a choice?

It wouldn't be bad (bad meaning immoral), if that was truly your only course of action. Morality is about having a code of values that allow one to make a decision about what to do out of a set of alternative courses of action. Where there are no alternatives (but one) there is no decision, and so there is no morality possible.
However, the "choice" might be bad (bad meaning harmful for you), since the only course of action isn't necessarily in favor of your well-being.
