You're probably right, but we can't know for sure, of course. I wonder why the Bible talks about Cain's kids, and Cain's kids' kids, but not Adam and Eve's children, not for 130 years anyway (if your one week old reproductive timetable is accurate, that is)? The Bible doesn't mention many girls by name back then, so maybe they had nothing but daughters for 130 years

I don't think you need to read that "and" the way you do. "And" also means "also" so read it like this:

Then the days of Adam after he became the father of Seth were eight hundred years, also he had other sons and daughters.

It doesn't have to mean "and then", it can just mean "also".

Hi Nicholas, the meaning of the Hebrew word, יָלַד, לֵדָה [yalad]. "...and he had/begat (in the King James) other sons and daughters", speaks of bearing more offspring after Seth, not of the children that he and Eve already 'had' in the quiver (Psalm 127:4-5). There is also the matter of how the verse reads, of course.

What DOES speak of pre-Seth children is the fact that v5 tells us the couple had "other sons AND daughters" (NASB) post-Seth (which seems to indicate that they must have already had at least one daughter, yes)?

Of course, even if that's not true, v5 doesn't mean that the first couple didn't have other kids between Able and Seth, it doesn't seem to be talking about pre-Seth children at all.

It kinda makes you wonder though, if the Bible takes the time to mention Adam and Eve's kids AFTER Seth, why not the ones before him too

My overarching point in these last few "silly" posts of mine was to say that perhaps it's time to stop the "guessing game" in Genesis, and move onto talking about subject matter that God actually included in the Bible ... and to be content to wait to find answers to things that we will never know this side of Glory anyway

The tree of the knowledge of good and evil seems to be the thing which has given mankind the distinction between good and evil. So if Adam and Eve were unaware of good and evil, or at least the significance of such things, then why did God punishment them for their disobedience? Please explain how this story makes sense. If it doesn't make sense, and you believe it is a literal story, then where do you go from there?

Atheists: please allow the premise that the story of the garden is literal history and not a myth.

Christians: if you don't believe that the story of the garden is literal, then this thread may not be for you.

It is very relevant. It means that GOD knew everything from the beginning

It's man who didnt know everything from the beginning

And GOD gave us HIS WORD that we might know. HIM. HE did not hide HIMSELF but fully revealed HIMSELF in HIS SON

Men just want more "clarification"? showing that what GOD has given us by HIS WORD was not sufficient to them
