They are cute, but their mommas are very protective.
We carry bear spray and make noise when we walk in the woods...just in case.

They usually try to avoid us, and most of our sightings have been a quick pass through the yard at dusk, when you can just see them.
We had to stop feeding the birds because they demolished our poles and feeders (and it attracts the wild turkeys who make more mess in the yard than my dog)
A bear went through a neighbors screen slider in their home one summer, so we also must close the windows when we go out, especially after cooking.

Great to see, but they must be respected for sure!

Yep...you must have lots of bears there...good for you tho, you are cautious.

ROFLOL ^_^

That's my hubby ;) He was pacing the house, nervously watching for the bear like a hawk!
Every time someone's car slowed or stopped he was looking to see if they stopped for the bear!

I on the other hand was HOPING to see it; respectful, always alert, but excited.
I am the nature lover in the house; always exploring and studying every little (and BIG) thing that moves :D

The first time the bear came through the yard, he ran around the house closing and locking doors and windows...ready to get his gun ^_^

I was IN the window, with an air horn in one hand (to scare it if it came too close) ....camera in the other (but it was getting too dark for a pic) :sorry:

You make a wonderful pair...thanks for sharing this...delightful bear story.

We have that, but they are very elusive....and at the hint of any human action, lights on etc they head for the hills.

Funny story ~
A few years ago, my sis died suddenly in her sleep from an aneurysm at age 49 :(
Anyway....I took off that October morning in a hurry to be with my family, and I forgot to turn the outside lights on for when hubby or I got home that evening.
He got home first, and when I came around the bend to the house (surrounded by woods, no street lights) the house and property was LIT UP LIKE A CHRISTMAS TREE

When I got in the house, hubby's eyes were big as saucers and I could tell 'something' happened.

When he got home it was PITCH BLACK on the road, in the house, in the yard....he got out of his truck to get the mail with just headlights on (the mail boxes are on the road), when a neighbor who was driving just ahead of him, stopped and backed up to talk to him.

He wanted to tell hubby that a BEAR HAD JUST WANDERED UP OUR DRIVEWAY TO THE HOUSE (I would have loved to see his face when he heard that:D )

So hubby drove up the drive with HIGH BEAMS ON, HONKING THE HORN, YELLING 'YO BEAR' until he got in the house, where he turned on EVERY LIGHT WE HAD...INSIDE AND OUT ^_^

Of course the bear was long gone before he even got to the house, but he kept watch (like a loving hubby ;) ) until I got home.

*we had already had a sighting just yards from our back door, so he KNEW the guy wasn't kidding, and knew the size of the bear (impressive 300# +).

We still laugh and tell that tale....

And we have had many close encounters with 1500 pound moose too...at our door, right behind us as we BBQ'd outside (he flew in the house that time ROFLOL),and while in the woods hiking.
They are also dusk/dawn travelers and hard to get on film here...

Ok, I am rambling :D ....I LOVE wildlife adventures...can you tell?!

Have a great day...I will be vacuuming and washing floors today :p

These are terrific tales...hubby is really great for living in such a rural area.

Boy, seeing a moose in the wild, right there....soooo coool.

LOL Gail

I almost wept at that story... What a guy :) \o/

I was reminded of the afternoon
that three of our lads came running in from the back garden

"Dad, Dad, there is a snake in the back garden"

With the wife, calling-in the dogs from the back yard
I searched the grass where they were pointing toward [carefully]
because, we do have a venomous snake in our country [Adder, family: viper]
and, it could also be, an escaped exotic [pet]

Instead, I found a harmless Slow Worm, [legless lizard] phewwww!!!
But hey ho... and away we go ...
with concrete walling 6 feet to 10 feet high around the garden
it wasn't impossible, to have had a 'snake' inside

:)

Back Later

We need to make a family visit shortly

We have had and killed several rattlers on our property, in fact, Spring is the worst season for them...they are very hard to see, but when we do, we both get "rattled". LOL

I am more the nature lover than he is...and he USED to be a hunter/fisherman and marine ;)

I would have a hard time living with venomous snakes....the others I am fine with, and can handle them.
We only encountered a TIMBER RATTLER here once....he went after Jim's boot; we had just moved into the house.
Can't recall what he did with it.....and we never saw another one after.

We have not done anything like that in a long time.:wave:
Same here...and it is usually cold with snow on the ground ^_^

The grandkids go to their other grandparents for a HUGE egg hunt on their farm before they come to our house for dessert.
All their cousins their age go, so it is a great time for them :)
The few eggs we'd hide around the house when my kids were little can't match their production, so we don't even try :D

You have a larger family...we are just too small for me, our one grandchild will be 14 this month and we won't see him until June when he graduates 8th grade.

I guess the Marines were one thing with him...and bears are another ^_^

My family is dwindling...just my sis and step sis left; they have the holidays with their families.

My 2 kids and 2 grandkids are coming, the rest are on Jim's side.
They are from the Cape, so we have them to our home now.

You are cracking me up about your hubby and the bears....:clap::clap::thumbsup:.

I have a brother still alive, but we have never been close...:doh:My family has not been very good at being a family.

And I think I was depressed even as a child...my mom was a very bitter woman, she passed that along to me. Thes last years in the Lord have been my best years for sure, inspite of illness and infirmities and I thank Him for His faithfullness to me. What a God He is!!!!!!!!
