Dave, all is well... I took your advice but then asked again at the hardware store. Those guys usually know... I described my wire to the guy.. he gave me stuff to put over it and told me to cover it well even over the end. (electrical tape is what we call it here).
he said bend the inner wires away from each other as well as covering them.
my fuse box is a "breaker box".. I dont have fuses I have breakers... The hot water heater has it's own switch in the box. (it is off)... I will do as you say and mark it clearly that there is no hot water heater hooked up to the appropriate wires.
I have my power back on.. I feel safe. There is a wet mess back there still and the guy said just let it dry on it's own. I have particle board flooring and it is soft right now. he said it will harden back up as it drys but to leave it alone until then.
I can't get the heater out of the closet that it was in because apparently the closet was built around the heater as the heater does not fit through the opening. That's a problem for another day.
shoved steel wool in any wholes going outside to keep kritters out. (mice or the like)
Soon I'm going to bath and do some laundry..... I am so very grateful for your help.
I'm a tad tired from all the mental work and from running back and forth to the hardware store. My evening will involve getting my work cloths clean and taking a nice bath.

my electric panel does not have fuses... it has switches that we call breakers... they are either in and on or off state.... the one's for the hot water heater are in the off state. I wonder how much that thing not being connected will save me in cost. lol

I just did a lot of sitting and blowing my nose...watched the football playoffs...there were upsets, which made the games interesting.

Gail,I had help. It was good to get it done. I have water.. I can boil a bath for a while... I can do my laundry in cold water. I can boil water for dishes. The important thing is, it's all taken care of. And, yes it was very kind of Dave to take the time to chat for three or four days with me while I struggled through it. He helped me save money when money is tight. I have what I need which is running water and electricity. I was terrified when it started.

I have been quiet, maybe I had a bad allergy attack, don't know because I felt a lot better today...then sort of got crabby this afternoon...
O, I used to always be crabby...so I hope this doesn't last long. LOL.I have been struggling with facing another year with a decaying body...a lot of you can relate I am sure.
