My son has a big concert with members of our local symphony here on Saturday. It is his whole day program they will be playing Bells and I know he has a vocal solo. They may be playing psalters as well. The big dress rehearsal is tomorrow night. I don't even think he is nervous.

Sounds like he is born to the stage! May it go well for him, and those who are with him.

Hello Michael,

After looking at the prayer thread, I'll assume that many are busy with family, friends, those who are ill, and those who have suffered loss. Many are in our prayers.

I know that is so, and I'm praying too. My remark was just an attempt to restart the conversation here.

In that case, please let me ask a question that I'm interested in that might cause some conversation.

Does anyone here have a small herb garden that can be taken indoors when the weather is bad? I saw a big earthen pot the other day that had small pots at various levels on the outside. I know they need light, and I have a place inside for light year around. My question involves how well they do and any tricks that someone could share in maintaining a good one. I would even be willing to buy one of those special lights that plants like if I had a reasonable expectation of a ready supply of our favorite herbs (i.e. thyme, rosemary, mint, dill, cilantro, garlic, chives, and some kind of small onion). My wife and I are both now into healthy cooking, and we think that fresh herbs might make many of the foods more tasty.

:D Before you think or ask - all LEGAL herbs and spices.

^_^It never occurred to me you might want advice on marijuana growing, magnum!
Growing the (legal) herbs and spices sounds like a great idea though I know nothing about it to contribute.

Our neighbor's teen-age son's "garage band" was driving me nuts yesterday after I got home from work.:tantrum: After about an hour and a half of the racket (with me inside and no windows open, mind you!):argh: I finally went down and asked the mom (very nicely) to turn the volume down! They have played before like that, but it has mercifully ceased after about 30 minutes. Not yesterday however!

Now, mind you, I had a teen-age son who played bass guitar and I remember one time getting into my car and I thought I could see the house shaking (from his bass guitar!:o) Ok, not really, but I could hear it! So I know how these things are. However....and I hate confrontation like this, but a crotchety ole lady's gotta do what a crotchety ole lady's gotta do, ya know! ;):D

I am sure you were very uncrochety about it Kay. My whole family plays so I am in the middle of it. It doesn't bother me much anymore but we try to keep it down and only have one neighbour on one side of us. The new neighbours have louder parties than we do so can't complain but other previous owners were very noise sensitive. They called and asked us to turn down the stereo so we must have sounded pretty good. LOL.

I love herbs and have often thought about growing an herb garden as to buy fresh is very expensive. I think they can be grown indoors fine just like house plants.

Thanks, Dave. We were working from the site. For some undiscovered reason, nothing worked until we did the system restore.

Michael

You are very welcome Michael,

I do not remember you mentioning what browser you use
but as you browse the internet, you will need various ADD-ONS

Temporary settings, if not cleaned-up [?]
will be used the next time you use the Browser

[as you shut down at night... you will see "saving your current settings" ?]

Cleaning-up your browser's temporary files, can prevent problems
that could turn up, viz...next time you use the browser [?]

System Restore does UNDO the 'newly applied'
but, was probably unnecessary
A Browser cleanup... was probably, all, that was necessary [?]

Try that... if, you see a 'next-time'

Good evening everyone. I am so tired from this weekend. I feel like I have walked 10 miles or more. (it felt like it anyway) We had the Autism walk on Saturday at Solders field. Then we also went to the Field Museum so Benjamin could see the Dino's and other animals. Then went to our big mall (Woodfield). Today I had 2 services to sing and play handbells. Now I'm doing laundry.

We got a little mini-greenhouse today that looks like a large rectangular tin pie pan with a clear plastic lid. You put potting soil in it and add the seeds. We got a variety of seeds and will start it tomorrow. All you have to do is water it with Miracle-Grow and make sure it gets plenty of light. The larger plants will have to be transplanted to our outside garden. YES, we already know there is no comparison between fresh herbs and the dried or powdered stuff in the store. You can even smell a big difference before and during cooking. We did find some directions, and it turns out that they are very easy to grow - inside or outside. We'll keep the puny and fragile ones inside away from the wind and elements. Watering with Miracle-Grow means that you get high yield from very small areas. I'll let everyone know how things turn out soon.

I've had mini gardens too.

This is our first time to try a mini inside garden, but we're looking forward to it. Our outside garden is raised and 16 feet by 8 feet - all for vegetables so far. We plan to use Miracle-Grow with it also - including Miracle-Grow potting soil to help the plants get a strong root system established. We are especially looking forward to fresh tomatoes and a variety of greens from our outside garden. As a bonus, these things are encouraged in our diet plans. In fact, nearly all fresh vegetables are recommended for good health, regardless of whether you are on a diet or not.

My wife is retired now, but she still belongs to an email circle of teachers who share jokes and stories. Here's one I thought you might also enjoy:

Reasons Not To Mess With Children

A little girl was talking to her teacher about whales.

The teacher said it was physically impossible for a whale to swallow a human because even though it was a very large mammal its throat was very small.

The little girl stated that Jonah was swallowed by a whale.

Irritated, the teacher reiterated that a whale could not swallow a human; it was physically impossible.

The little girl said, 'When I get to heaven I will ask Jonah'.

The teacher asked, 'What if Jonah went to hell?'

The little girl replied, 'Then you ask him'.
__________

A Kindergarten teacher was observing her classroom of children while they were drawing. She would occasionally walk around to see each child's work. As she got to one little girl who was working diligently, she asked what the drawing was.

The girl replied, 'I'm drawing God.'

The teacher paused and said, 'But no one knows what God looks like.'

Without missing a beat, or looking up from her drawing, the girl replied, 'They will in a minute.'
__________

A Sunday school teacher was discussing the Ten Commandments with her five and six year olds. After explaining the commandment to 'honour' thy Father and thy mother, she asked, 'Is there a commandment that teaches us how to treat our brothers and sisters?'

Without missing a beat one little boy (the oldest of a family) answered, 'Thou shall not kill.'
__________

One day a little girl was sitting and watching her mother do the dishes at the kitchen sink. She suddenly noticed that her mother had several strands of white hair sticking out in contrast on her brunette head. She looked at her mother and inquisitively asked, 'Why are some of your hairs white, Mum?'

Her mother replied, 'Well, every time that you do something wrong and make me cry or unhappy, one of my hairs turns white.'

The little girl thought about this revelation for a while and then said, 'Mummy, how come ALL of grandma's hairs are white?'
__________

The children had all been photographed, and the teacher was trying to persuade them each to buy a copy of the group picture. 'Just think how nice it will be to look at it when you are all grown up and say, 'There's Jennifer, she's a lawyer,' or 'That's Michael, He's a doctor.'

A small voice at the back of the room rang out, 'And there's the teacher, she's dead.'
__________

A teacher was giving a lesson on the circulation of the blood. Trying to make the matter clearer, she said, 'Now, class, if I stood on my head, the blood, as you know, would run into it, and I would turn red in the face.'

'Yes,' the class said.

'Then why is it that while I am standing upright in the ordinary position the blood doesn't run into my feet?'

A little fellow shouted, 'Cause your feet ain't empty.'
__________

The children were lined up in the cafeteria of a Catholic elementary school for
lunch. At the head of the table was a large pile of apples. The nun made a note, and posted on the apple tray: 'Take only ONE . God is watching.'

Moving further along the lunch line, at the other end of the table was a large pile of chocolate chip cookies. A child had written a note, 'Take all you want.. God is watching the apples...'

My wife and I have been on our diet long enough now to know that herbs and spices make a big difference in the list of foods we are supposed to eat. We're working on simple recipes and keeping the ones we like. As an example, I would have told you at one time that I don't like baked fish, but we had some delicious baked fish last night. I don't remember the spices used, but I remember it involved lemon slices baked with the fish.
