I forgot something I promised to do. I did cook for my wife recently, and I promised everyone I would let you know if we survived. Yes, we did survive. My wife even complimented me on the cooking, so I get to do it again.

Here is something I found interesting this week, and I would not have known about it except for Facebook.

It is about the minister that married us 26 years ago in Australia.

I linked up with him on Facebook when he was returning to US. I see on FB that his home is in the San Bruno area in the massive explosion, and the house just three doors down was totally destroyed, and his home was looted but is still there.

He says: Looking outside down the street is like nothing I've ever seen in my life. The destruction and devastation is beyond description. Not even the dog's favourite tree is there anymore.

The families of those who died and the survivors are in my prayers. I watched several news clips on this horrible natural gas explosion. The big unknown and fear regards how many more explosions could happen because of poor maintenance of gas lines. I sincerely hope this results in more attention to safety concerns.

Tom, I saw coverage on TV, as we see so many horrible disasters, never imagining that I would know people involved.... it is a small world.

Yes, so much infrastructure is decaying and not being maintained these days.

That was so terrible. He is fortunate to still be there. Imagine people looting the house. That is in someway worse in my mind than the accident as it shows the decay in morality in the nation. Not that I am minimizing the loss of life and homes etc. It is just so sad that people who have undegone such a tragedy would be then subject to this sort of thing. Jan

Unfortunately looting seems to follow any disaster, I remember seeing it on the news after Katrina, and after the Black Saturday fires in my country. just to think there are people out there, that may have been your neighbours that are so heartless!

I served in many disasters, and looting resulted in all of them. Sadly, looting many times starts before the survivors can be treated and the victims' bodies recovered. It's heartless greed taking advantage of people with little or nothing left. I'm not hinting that I understand it. It would seem that even criminals should have a spark of conscience for people who are going through such horrors, but they don't.
