Good afternoon. I hope you are enjoying your day no matter where you may be. I myself would like it a little warmer than what it is.

it's sunny and 52 here in Texas today. Very nice winter day, but we are supposed to get a cold blast through here tonight....

I have been using my cloth rice bag to warm me up and ease my aches and pains. 2 minutes in the microwave does it. Haven't been around much I have discovered FACEBOOK so I am getting caught up with distant family and friends that way. I haven't forgotten CF though. Also being back to work after christmas break makes my time for computer stuff much more limited. Jan

I've never gone on facebook. But my avon manager sent us an e-mail regarding it and how we can use it for our business. I just haven't had a chance to check it out.

This lack of basic-privacy, can be potentially disastrous,
when, this information is disclosed 'unselectively' in this way

Your 'contacts-list' is, and should be maintained, as, confidential information
and Facebook, is simply 'an open book'

These 'messages aren't PRIVATE
and searching for the Lady's name, will uncover her messages to you
and also replies she has received..
Imagine.... her former partner is reading them [?]

Okay for younger people....
but so much less 'privacy' than I would like [personally speaking]


My email is 'secure' [2048 bits]
and my messenger is 'contacts-only'
and this, is the way to go if, anything is to remain 'under-wraps'

The government are now, seeking to be able to visit ANY PC
under the guise of anti-terrorism [precautions/ and Intelligence/ Evidence gathering...]

I would like them to have, at least several other good reasons
before, being allowed to do so...
and I, have nothing to hide

But... that.... is apparently the WAY that these things are going

Based upon what I saw of it 'Facebook'
[prior to taking Mary through the steps of shutting it down]
It is a register of names, their relationships to each other
It is a library of family photographs..
with a textual 'messenger' thingy below it

I would suggest that there is a great deal of information stored there
for anyone who would wish to 'look you over'

for example...
telling family about trips you are about to take
'pet to the vet'
'hospital appointment'
can tell a burglar 'when' he can visit your home [?]

my life is pretty much an open book. i can't really think of anything i hide. i like my facebook and my friends there. i enjoy seeing what their up to. once in a while i use the chat thing too.

I don't get on Facebook very often. I'm confused though....what exactly is Dave saying isn't private. Surely, the private messages are, aren't they? What are we talking about here?:o

You can also set "privacy levels" too. Not sure exactly how that works, but I think the top level is that only those you classify as "friends" can see your profile.

yes, you choose who you want to "let in". your friends can see what you tell your other friends on their "walls" (kinda like a mini bulletin board) if their a mutual friend. my friend adam can see what i write on our mutual friend, yasmin's wall, and vice versa. i cannot see what adam writes on jeff's wall, if i'm not a friend of jeff's.

i dunno.... i don't see a whole lot of really private stuff on there anyways. basically just chit chat. (how we feel.... what we're up to) nothing that deep.

and yes, the private messages you send a friend are private, of course.

i also like to see pics everyone puts on too. vacation pics, etc. i have cyberfriends on there, plus a cousin, a neighbor's son, and former pen pals who now use the net.

Well, based upon what I have seen...
I 'offered' a note of caution... since when, others claim
that there is more-security available, than I have seen

If, you are happy it is okay.... then, fair-enough 'enjoy'

BUT! if, 'you are playing with fire' and you get your fingers 'burned' so to write
crying 'OW' I didnt know that could happen
won't undo the damage that could be done to you

I gave 'examples'
of, possible consequences of a PUBLIC VIEWING
following, a search for usernames by an interested party

As I said: I have nothing-to-hide either
but I chat to people that wouldnt want their-business 'broadcast'
if, you see my meaning ?
and if you have the names of my contacts
you might see their emails also
and if, my contacts get spammed or solicited by unwanted senders
how must I then feel ?

Sorry.... if, you are as happy with it as you appear to be
please enjoy... but I cannot use-it, for, the reasons stated

For me.... Windows Live Messenger / shared folders
allows me to share images and personal files with selected contacts
on a person to person basis... iow... some, may, see all
whilst others, may see, only selected files /images
whilst internet users whom are not in my contacts list, SEE NOTHING
AND my friends/contacts list is extensive

My Mary's recent-experiences, give me sufficient reason to doubt
that facebook can be used in a private manner
and that, for me, there are superior Contact Mediums available
that have little risk
