  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

My son did put up a tree yesterday, the mine 2 foot high one in the family room on the island. lol. Oh well it is a start. I crochet but have a hard time with the tension of my stiches. It is the same with knitting maybe one day I will pick it up again and try to solve the problem because I do find it fun. I used to like to knit with the one large kneedle and one small kneedle remember that in the earl 80's? Jan

I haven't a clue where we will be putting the Christmas tree this year. Our son might be moving out soon so the house is quite cluttered at the moment.

We had a lovely day yesterday. We went with a friend to a university to attend some seminars. All three seminars were really intersting. One was on the psalms, another on Job and the third on Ecclesiastes. We got to meet the authors of the books that were on display and we also met a lot of other students. Back to the books again today.:)

My crochet....well...I have to confess it doesn't really resemble crochet at the moment....:D

The seminars sound really interesting Ley what University did you attend? I used to do religious classes during the summer here at Regent College but haven't for years. Jan

Hey Ley!

Guess what! I bought some crochet hooks at Wal-Mart this morning, a whole set of them, with instructions. I also bought some yarn. Maybe I'll get started after all! :)

Your story of the cat walking across the roof of the garage and it falling in had me chuckling. I can just imagine! My house is a bit sturdier, and a good thing, because we can get some brisk winds here on the high plains of Texas. Speaking of which...my hair was being tossed every which way this morning when I was walking into the store. A cold front is moving in--I had to put on a jacket!!!

Well, I have my ingredients for Thanksgiving tomorrow, now I need to start putting them together. I'm going to make pumpkin pie today, and butternut squash soup.

I love soup--

Til later!

A busy day in a lot of kitchens today...and I do love to cook. DH wanted to take me out to dinner at a restaurant so I would not have any work to do. WORK? I dont call it work...to me its pure FUN! Last night I pouted and said..."I can't take it! I need my own turkey!" so off he went to the store with my shopping list in hand and soon returned with a 20lb turkey and everything I need to cook a whole dinner. I figure I have all day today to prepare...sticking to the basics, and my dear husband is here to help chop veges and peel apples. NO we cant eat all 20 lb bird by urselves but we have one son close who is still a single young man who can eat quite a lot of turkey and dressing and he will come for dinner. I can pack him up with plenty of the left overs but not all the left overs....I must keep the wings...they are my favorite, especially for snacking on.

I have apples to make him an apple pie...made with real sugar...and he can have the whole thing...my pumpkin pie will be the splenda version which is quite good for t keep my blood sugar in control.

I am still here checking in off and on so I get a sitting break between cooking chores. Thats called "taking it easy, eh?" OK back to the next step of my pie.

Ariel, I do envy you the crochet...I try it but for some reason, I get terrible migrain when I do it...art and sewing is more my style. Its been a long time since I habe been able to do any of that. I am so grateful to be getting better since Diabetes is in control.

If I dont see you again today. I wish all friends here a wonderful Thanksgiving Day.

Hi Ariel,

I imagine you had a great time shopping for all your crochet things at Wal-Mart. I already have quite a few crochet hooks and patterns and loads of yarn!! I am sat at the computer now trying to master a granny square ...LOL I will get the hang of it one day.:)

Your baking sounds so delicious. We really need to have a Thanksgiving Day over here in the UK. I think our government have been talking about the need for an extra holiday to bring us in line with the rest of the EU. I vote it should be a Thanksgiving Holiday.

Blessings

Ley :)

Hello

I dropped in to let you know

That I sincerely hope that my american Bro's & Sis's/ Sis's & Bro's
enjoyed a most wonderful and satisfying Thanksgiving

I woke up so 'high' this-morning
I looked across at Mary
soundly sleeping to my left

I wanted to throw my arm over-her
I wanted to hug her 'close'
and to tell her just, how very-happy, I am, since, arriving here

But I feared to waken-her
It seemed such a shame to disturb her
so, I got out and dressed
and went downstairs and let dogs out
oh, it must have been about a quarter to nine
because at ten to nine
I was sat in the kitchen drinking a coffee

Max barked many times at the bedroom door
I-suppose, telling Mary, to get up now!
Well, a few minutes later in she comes
to a freshly made tea I'd made her

and I told her, about my 'first-thoughts' of the day

"Silly you should have hugged me! I would have loved it!"

I 'made a date' with myself.....

TOMORROW MORNING
and EVERY MORNING THEREAFTER

What a TRULY lovely and wonderful woman
not! just to me....
but to family and neighbours [friends] ALSO!
She, [Mary] is simply____ THERE ! for us all
Mary is __an Angel

my Angel !

Thank you Lord for all my blessings
and, especially for sending me Mary

Hi Jan, Regent College is one of the very best schools in Canada. I would liked to have studied there years ago. I personally knew a couple of professors there, and they were noted scholars.

Cheers,

Jim
Yes Jim it has a very good reputation. I have only audited courses there never taken anything for credit and not for a long time. I have been busy with family stuff for a long time. lol. But it was a very enjoyable time and a I am hoping in my retirement years to have the opportunity for further concentrated study. Hope you are well I have been thinking about you. Jan

Thank you so much, Jan, Ley and Dave for the well wishes for us here in the U.S. Ley, I agree, if the UK adds another holiday, you would do well with a thanksgiving day!

We had a lovely time. My second son came up from Houston unexpectedly, bringing his wife and sweet daughter. My daughter and her husband came over with their three children. That made eleven of us, with our two teens. And my dear husband fussed when I said maybe we need to set up a separate children's table. "No," he said, "I hated sitting at the children's table when I was a child. We need to be all together." So I pulled out my dining table as far as it would go, and added a leaf. We sat--all eleven--snugly, but we still fit. The feast was wonderful. And he was right. It felt so good to be all together.

Well, here we are, back to Monday, but with a difference--the Christmas season is upon us!

May you all have a blessed day, and a blessed week!

Hiyah all :)

I was 'out-shopping' with Mary earlier

When Mary had purchased those things she needed
we then 'stopped' at a Jewelry Store
and I purchased a diamond solitaire ring ;)

I propose, to get on bended knee
and to ask, this lady [in front of her family]
to marry me [in the new year]
as, her 'birthday-present' from me

She let me know 'already'.... ;)
that she won't.... turn me down :):):):)

So I hope you will, all of you ! enjoy my GOOD NEWS

dave

EDIT:
apparently, I misheard re: the advanced birthday party [for Mary]
It is, her granddaughter's birthday-party :(
Cannot detract from HER 'special-day' !!!!

'So, when then ?'

"My birthday is December 23rd... just four weeks!
I don't mind waiting until then... Oh I'm so-excited
I would marry you tomorrow!!!"

In a nutshell then.... We'll be engaged before Christmas!

LOL, Dave. It seems you are set to get into the Christmas mood!

LOL....Diana

It has been some years, since when I could CHANCE
myself to moving so-freely
Nowadays I might do myself a 'serious-mischief'

But well funny it is too

Christmas presents to my granddaughters
have-already, arrived, in Bristol
All Cards [for-posting] have been posted
just a few local ones to be handed out is, all that is left

Mary is being taken out for a meal by, her daughter Joanna
For, her birthday [am invited]
It's then, that we, will become engaged OFFICIALLY
and later [next year]
we will complete our marriage vows
followed by a church blessing
in the anglican church at the end of our road
[as seen, in Raining Leaves [the movie]

Oh yes It's Christmas!
and here comes, more-fun
another year over
and a new one, to be begun

You wax poetic, Dave. It seems love agrees with you!

Here on the high plains of West Texas, I continue to be challenged by the season ahead. I am still decorating. I have not yet done the shopping for packages that need to be mailed---!!!!!!!! And who knows when the Christmas baking will be done.

Still, it is a lovely day today, and I choose to celebrate the Lord's goodness--and His goodness to you and Mary as well, Dave!

May our God bless your dear sweet heart Diana

for sure, I have, been putting on a little weight
since I arrived here, July 6th
It's been years since when, I last saw
any roundness in my face and, thankfully STILL NO PAUNCH

Not all 'daffodils and roses' I am afraid
but am NOT 'complaining' when I tell you
that, behind my 'hernia scar' my flesh,
feels like it's being 'TORN' from time, to time

I was told back in September, that a large number of similar cases
reported chronic-pain for up to a year...post-op
that the gauze 'implanted' could, become infected
requiring a repeat operation and antibiotic treatment

Regardless of, the abovementioned reminders of, past pain
I HAVE, managed to COPE with redecorations here
although, in past I could complete a whole house
in just 3 to 4 days
It could, be many weeks yet, before I can complete
this one

You still have 'what is it now ?'
28/ 29 days left to WORK ON those outstanding tasks Diana

Maybe, a little prioritizing
could aid your progressing more ably
in the the time left-remaining ?

Mary sends her-wishes for God's blessings upon you
ditto from me
