  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

The "three bite rule" is a strategy Dr. Agatston wrote in his book The South Beach Diet. He made the point that when we have dessert, only the first three bites really taste that great, and the rest are just so many calories. I think he's right. So when I do have dessert, I limit myself to three bites. It's enough to not feel deprived, while still keep calories down.

LOL, Spring, you're funny, telling your husband that you are full! I do it too! :)

Trying to catch up, because I've been in and out too quickly recently--

Actually, I have found that it works very well. But everyone is different. I like this strategy, though, because it keeps me from feeling deprived.

Hi Jan, we are so glad to see you back and hear that all is well there.

Hello dear Spring! Yes, it is good that Jan is back, and I am glad to see you here, too.

Well there is a first-time for everything also!!!

Jan, that sounds really good.

Just looking in to say "hi" to everyone. I hope you are all having a good weekend.

Is cold here. Woodburner is lit so will probably spend the evening downstairs practicing my crochet.

Blessings

Ley :)

Oh Ley, I love crochet! It's been a number of years since I've done it, though.

It is a cold grey Sunday morning here I shall be off to church in an hour or so. Hope you are all having a great rest. Nothing too much new to report here. Just want to say again that I did so appreciate all the well wishes when I was away and unable to post. You guys are so thoughtful. I am still finding it hard to get back tinto the more meaty threads as concentration is off a bit. I have tried another site as well and like it but find it slow. :) Jan

Hwew I am and guess what??? The sun came out. Hubby stayed at church for a church chat and I am home cleaning up for company tonight. Two of my kids are at the Western Semi Final for the Canadian Football league. Our team is the favourite but we are playing another provincial team called the Saskatchewan Roughriders and they have insane fans. Should be a good game. The Eastern Final is happening I think in Toronto between Winnipeg Blue Bombers and the Toronto Argonauts. (I always think of Winnipeg Manitoba as part of Western Canada if you look on a map it is but they moved that team to the eastern division cause all the strong teams are all out west. My mother in law is from Saskatchewan originally so she was teasing the guys buy cheering for them. Jan

Jan, that sounds like fun!

Here in Texas our football team blew us away Saturday with an unexpected win.

I am glad that you are back. I've been concerned about you. I am praying for you, dear one.

Ley--I'm not familiar with the hobby threads, but I will go hunting... Thanks!

Thanks for the prayers Ariel you are such a sweetie. Yes I feel so much better. I was just saying to my youngest son that it is good to be feeling normal again. I think I get stressed out when i am sick because everything just kind of slides and others don't pick up the slack.(at least not enough) and then I stress out about it and try to push myself before I should. My GP has referred me to a urologist to get some things checked out but it is a routine thing that I have had done before just not for about years so he is refering me back to the urologist. I thought I was getting old and that was what it felt like. LOL Jan

About the football game OOPS we were the favourite had the best season and lost. I was actually rooting for the Saskatchewan Roughriders as they have worked very hard and it was amazing that they beat us. Now it is between two teams that are from side by side Provinces. Saskatchewan and Manitoba but is still called West vs the East.
Spring I hope all is going well with you we haven't chatted for ages either. Jan

Win or lose, it sounds like you all had fun, Jan! I am so glad that you are back and able to chat again.

Well, I thought I'd find a crochet needle, I didn't. I was too pre-occupied by other things yesterday. Maybe today?

I mentioned to my DH this morning that people are already putting up their Christmas trees. So he went up into the attic and got down the various boxes, pieces and parts!!!!! Guess what I'm going to start doing today...and hopefully find my crochet hooks as well... :)

I haven't a clue where we will be putting the Christmas tree this year. Our son might be moving out soon so the house is quite cluttered at the moment.

We had a lovely day yesterday. We went with a friend to a university to attend some seminars. All three seminars were really intersting. One was on the psalms, another on Job and the third on Ecclesiastes. We got to meet the authors of the books that were on display and we also met a lot of other students. Back to the books again today.:)

My crochet....well...I have to confess it doesn't really resemble crochet at the moment....:D

Good morning Ley, (((((HUGS)))))

Your comment about where to put the tree reminds me of the years we stored our grown children's furniture in our garage...So we didn't have room, either--for our cars. Finally one year my husband got disgusted. By that time it had been five years, and it looked like that stuff was never going to be claimed. So my DH began just throwing away or giving away. He would work on it every Saturday for a few hours. Its took him weeks. But we finally have a garage again, and can pull our cars in, which is important if you live in a place which can get severe hailstorms... As for the stuff--my kids never did claim it....

I guess you don't have to worry about hailstorms, but I relate to your comment.

I never did find my crochet hooks yesterday, but I got my tree up. It's not decorated, but it's up. Then I got a call from my son in Houston saying he and his wife and daughter were coming for Thanksgiving after all. A change in plans!

I predict...no crocheting for me for a while, and who knows where those hooks are?

Oh dear Ariel, maybe it would be quicker for me to send some crochet hooks to you after all :)

We have never yet been able to put our car in a garage. Over here garages and gardens are not that big and Rob really needs a double garage just for his tools and equipment. Some of our garages have been quite delapitated. I remember one house we had, we were renting it at the time and the garage was such a ramshackle affair that part of the roof gave way as the cat walked across it one day...
