  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Awwww, Bonnie I love your dancer!

Jim, what joy to know you are cuddling a little one. May every moment bring you happiness.

I'm kind of like Jan. I look at my big guys and wonder how they could have grown so much in so few years. My sixteen-year-old especially. He's nearly 6'3". I look at him and think, Viking! That's probably what his ancestry is, genetically. But in the spirit, praise God he belongs to Christ!

One nephew was over 6 foot at 15 years of age, and his mother was stretching at 5 foot. She would take hold of his shirt and attempt to control him. Stevie would shake his head and say, "Here we go again. The jumping contest." The only one jumping at the time was my sister.

Love the little one. Take him to arms and he grasps my shirt with his wee hand and just won't let go. Haven't had that for years.

Cheers,

Jim

Yes, what a blessing for all your family, Jim! Praying that everyone is doing well and delighting in these lovely days.

Regarding those big teens...I'm only 5'5", but I don't do the jumping thing (that's so funny!). I just look my 16-year-old son in the eyes and have a great time talking with him. We laugh a lot. I taught him to drive this summer and that just brought us even closer together.

My 14-year-old son isn't as tall (yet), but has a great personality as well. He's fascinated with computers and taught himself Java script this summer, as well as HTML.

School starts tomorrow. Sigh. I'm going to miss my boys.

Enjoy that little one, Jim. They grow up so fast, so very fast.

They sure do. Congrats on your 14 yr olds computer savy. My 20 year old has managed to land a great contract job as a Webmaster. I am hoping at some point he will go back to school for more training but he is very much self taught with a "little" help from some of his high school computer courses. It is for his favourite professional soccer team so he is over the moon. lol driving is a great thing to learn and congrats for being able to teach him. I never could have done that, hubby had to pull that duty. We have had some issues and some increase in insurance rates though. I pray that you will survive the next few years unscathed in that regard. Jan

Wow, Jan, that's great--it sounds like your 20-year-old is doing something he loves.

I had help on the driving, having paid a driving school over $300 to teach my son. But in the end, it was I who taught him almost everything, something I hadn't planned on. Because Texas law has changed, he'll have to drive with me in the car until November, when he'll have had his permit for six months. I have to say, I think I prefer this system, even though it is more work for the parent. By the time Ray starts driving on his own, he will have had a lot of experience with someone beside him to coach him through the rough spots. Hopefully it will make him a better driver.

Lol, Jan, I know what you mean about the insurance. Not looking forward to it. Hopefully, we won't have any other causes for increases.

Hi everyone. Our two daughters went through driving school, even though I taught them to drive around the farm. In Ontario, it is easier for kids to get their licence if taken to test by the driving school. It also means lower insurance rates.

Thinking back, I got my first licence by a drive around the block, parking the car and paying my two pounds. It was much easier 60 odd years ago and insurance was almost unheard of. The driver's licence was a book, like a passport, with photo and driver's record included. In Canada, they just gave me an Ontario driver's licence based on my British licence, but, in those days, one had to have a licence for each province on test.

Cheers,

Jim

PS. I must have a retest every two years now. They seem to think us old guys are losing it.

They have the graduated liscencing system here too. First a permit (L)after a written test like your son has where a fully liscenced driver must be in the car at all times, then a (N) or new liscence granted after a road test. Can drive on own but with limited passengers and must have it for a year to 18 month before taking the full licence test again. These letters must be displayed. I think the police do stop the young drivers a lot though. My 20 yr old was stopped at 1:30 am coming home after work because of back tail light cover was broken. All the lights worked though. He was told to get it fixed in 2 weeks or risk a $500 fine. I think the RCMP were just checking to make sure he wasn't drinking. In fact they asked him that and he wasn't of course but they have to have a reason to pull you over or it is harassment.

I was stopped once whilst driving back to Ontario from Alberta. I was stopepd in Northern Ontario. The officer said, "How much have you been drinking?" He then looked at my licence where it read Rev. Jim...........Then he changed his wording and said, "How long have you been driving tonight?" He made me pull over and have a sleep. That was good. I sure needed the rest.

Cheers,

Jim

I know it has been a really long time since I posted.
This has been a stressful year for our family, but God has a plan to help us relieve some of that stress.
My husband just celebrated his 60th birthday and we threw him a surprise birthday party. The biggest part of the surprise that his son and daughter in law and their three children flew in from Az. He hasn't seen he son in almost 18 years. Messy divorce and money troubles have kept us and them from traveling.
This was the most touching moment of our 24 years together. I laughed and cried for the 6 days they were here.
I got to see the look in the eyes of our grandkids when the saw the Jersey shore and the ocean for the first time.
I posted a pic of the whole group after playing frisbee in the rain all day. We were missing two of our children that day. Our daughter Gina was sick with a migraine and just couldn't be there and our other son Jonathan wasn't able to fly out from Az with his brother.

I have missed talking with all of you and I will be back online next Wednesday. It will be the first day of school for the girls so I will finally get my 5 minutes on the computer.
God Bless you all
Lynn

Hi Sheila, I replied to pm..Hope it went through. I am never sure about pm's going through.

Not much to respond to in here anymore. So I just pop in and move along. I am not going to get involved with this extra-biblical trash that is going on. We have God's word, and it is final authority for man on earth. The only healing in the atonement is the ultimate healing of the soul. This old falacy came up years ago, and it was biblically refuted then.

It is just like the trash about food supplements and vitamins. Eat correctly, exercise and live right and none of these things are needed for a healthy lifestyle.

Cheers,

Jim
