Another lovely day in the Lord, and it looks like a lovely day in West Texas, too. We're supposed to have rain today, but so far there are clear blue skies--and I see the SUN! There's a crescent dove in my pond at the moment (I had to look that one up!). It is so quiet and peaceful.

May I offer this prayer for each of you today:

The Lord bless you and keep you;
The Lord make His face shine upon you, and be gracious to you;
The Lord lift up His countenance upon you,
and give you peace.

--Numbers 6:24-25

Much love to all!

Yeah, you couldn't find it because I remembered the name wrong. My "crescent dove" is a Eurasian Collared dove.

Here's the whatbird site:

What's interesting is that this bird in not supposed to be in my area of West Texas. This is the second year I've seen it, though. I looked it up last year--sorry I didn't remember the name too well! :)

Yes, Cindy, we have a pond. My husband and I put it in two years ago. It's not that big--the lower pond is 8'X8' and almost 4' deep.

Here are some pictures my husband took of it this last winter:

Thank you very much that is 'one' cute bird

will see if I can find an image to compare with

A British Racing Pigeon 3 NOT FERAL

all three are champion internationals

Pigeons are actually domesticated rock doves that have returned to wild or semi-wild conditions. Some rock doves were domesticated for food, others as homing pigeons, and some as ‘fancy’ pigeons, bred for their plumage.

Feral pigeons are a generally grey bird with slightly iridescent feathers on the neck that shine pink and green in the sunlight. Coloration is very variable with some individuals being white, others brownish-red, some grey and many mixtures. The eyes are orange and shine brightly in the sunlight.

Life span
They average 3-5 years in the wild. Captive pigeons can live for 15 years but some have been known to live for up to 35 years.

It is one cute bird, Dave. It's one of several kinds of doves that we seem to have around here. The others are white-winged, Inca and mourning doves. I'm familiar with the other ones, but this one really got me curious when it showed up last year.

And thank you for the pond pictures. I got real "peaceful" just looking at them Jan

Aw, Jan, you're welcome! I feel peaceful too every time I look at it. It's right outside my living room window--and I face it when I'm on my lap top. The only thing not peaceful about my pond at the moment are the fish. They are chasing each other! I wonder why--it has NOTHING to do with SPRING, does it?

Do you have any critters that like the fish is your pond. Say Racoons? I live right in the city but beside a designated "greenspace" so have a winding stream about 50 feet away. We have bears racoons skunks and other critters from time to time. We are very fortunate to have so much nature so close. Jan

Critters....hmmm... I have eight fish missing. One fish is missing an eye. And a pond lilly basket fell off the shelf to the deeper part. That basket is pretty heavy, it couldn't have just happened on its own....

Critters you say? Well, I haven't seen any--except a possum last fall....Hmm....But come to think of it, I'm not usually watching my pond at night, and my dog is in his bed, too.....
