This day is going by fast...I was up very early again and got a walk in with Gracie...went out to get some groceries, put gas into the car...my goodness, that is costing a lot these days.

I also got a small container of pepper spray to take out on my walks...the coyotes are out, not to mention loose dogs running around.

Have any of you ever used or carried pepper spray?....this is new for me.

I may sit back for a while...there is a football game coming on tonight that I want to watch.

re: question

No, I haven't
but I would advise against it's use, when, you are downwind of an animal

You wouldn't want it blown back in your face

I understand there are some fireworks that you can carry
with which you can scare them off ?

I was going to advise the same....make sure the wind is NOT in your face!
The other thing I have done is to carry mini air horns; they fit in your pocket and scare the animals off.

We have no musicians in the family...but we do love music...I really like classical guitar.

Glad to hear you are well and staying busy :)
Hubby does John Denver and used to play country (oalso n guitar), but the Beatles music he found challenging ;)
Now he does classical and inspirational hymns etc; he used to play in the folk group at Church.
Enjoy yourself

I find John Denver's music gives me some peace, my favourite is My Lady, it became more so after my heart attack, it has since become the song that both Babs and I consider 'our song' obviously on the list for learning.

As for the Beatles, there are so many beautiful songs I like 'That Boy' and 'My Guitar Gently Weeps' and babs loves 'Hey Jude' none of these are easy easy to learn but while God gives me life I've time to learn.

I would love to play classical guitar but that is a gift which I think is not mine. The only other music I would like to learn is that of the Glamrock band Slade of the 70's (The music of my and many others teens).

Had t o go to chiropody today and the post office, why does it always rain when I have tro to town:D:D:D!?

The thing we were also told about the spray (esp for bears at least)...if an animal is on attack, they will move right past a spray ....
and that you must be close enough to really hit them good anyway.

Usually if you make noise while walking, most animals are scared off.
It is when a pet is unattended in a yard that a wild animal will will prey on them.
Keeping them on a leash rather than a runner or loose is a good safeguard

Yes, I used and carried pepper spray for most of my law enforcement career. I have some advice - get the type that shoots a pin spray under pressure. The fan spray type will get you also, especially if there is any wind blowing in your direction when you use it. It works extremely well. If you get some in your eyes - don't panic - just try to find a source of lots of water to flush it out of your eyes. Your mucous membranes will also feel like they have been set on fire, but you'll get better in a few minutes. Generally, you are going to get some on you and it burns. Just remember it's temporary and don't panic. The above is the reason why police officers are required to be sprayed in training before being allowed to carry it.

Here in Massachusetts we must have firearm IDs to carry it ...even for the bears!
I carried it when I was a visiting nurse on the road, but when it expired and I was home, it wasn't worth the cost.
Hubby must have an ID for his hunting rifle, so he is covered to carry it when we hike.

HO HO HO

Oh my goodness :o

I've liked the Beatles, especially Paul McCartney for 50 years. It's difficult to believe he's 70 years old now, but it's also unbelievable that I'm pushing 60 myself.
Music was my company in my youth. Since I'm my myself again, I've been listening to oldies more. I also like Neil Diamond and as far as voice is concerned, I really enjoy Tom Jones.

Son Tim is coming tonight for a visit; he has five days off work.

Ok....Good advice...I am mainly concerned about coyotes and big cats around here...would they come after me with a small dog....I don't know, but I have had plenty of big dogs running loose come after Gracie.

Gracie is not allowed outside by herself...coyotes are killing the chickens around here.

No leash laws there either?
Snow sounds wonderful....maybe we should start the season early.

Not yet!
The :p you quoted was for Dave and not for the spray discussion....but you can have one for the early holiday start suggestion ;) :p
Bah Humbug! to winter, snow and festivities! LOL (Sorry, it's not my best time of year.)
I missed the snow and snowshoeing last year, but it is much too early for that yet!
When we see snows in October it is a LONG winter!
Though I would welcome a hard frost to kill off the skeeters
We have high EEE alerts here and some West Nile Virus outbreaks evening All evening school activities have been rescheduled to weekend days :o

The wind was rough last night which went on to early morning, fortuantely I had no need to go out. We ahd a guy a MORI polls doing a survey on behalf of the Scottish parliament.

Hopefully concluded some business with a bookshop that sent the wrong book! It's taken a couple of weeks and many emails to sort it out.

And to our annoyance our broadband box died! Fortunately I bought another some time back and never got around to changes the boxes over, this new one is slightly faster at downloading! So, all-in-all not a bad day reall!
