I've had every expensive allergy medication known to man and even had shots daily for about 5 years. I sincerely hope this helps you - I'm back to something old, inexpensive, and safe - Benadryl. For me, it works better than anything else. It does make me a little bit drowsy but not nearly as bad as some of the prescriptions I've taken. It's over the counter and I keep a bottle of them handy always - year around. Trust me - I know how miserable allergies can make you feel. I hope that you get to feeling better soon.

I use Sudafed...it worked...today I am better. The sudafed makes me tired, Benadryl just knocks me out. ((((((hugs)))))) from one allergy sufferer to another.

do you guys run air filters in your homes? I have them in every room. I get mine from iallergy.com... it's an extra expense but the bright side is I hardly ever have to dust. :) I do not suffer from allergies myself but I have a friend who does... he says it makes a difference.

I tried something from them...paid $600.00 for some kind of filter...the engine burned up in 24 hrs and smelled aweful...we returned the thing...other filters really smell worse than the normal dust "to me".

Wow...no dusting?! Those are the super-duper models!
Even when I was deathly ill with asthma/infections, I only used a less expensive filter during peak pollen time, and kept the house closed up.
I still have them, and still use them for pollen when the trees bud, and when we run the wood stove.
One has an ionizer and the others just filter; maybe it is all in my head ;) but it does clear the rooms of wayward smoke when we stoke the fire.

People say those things work, but our experience has been negative.

I am considering this allergy conversation
and am not necessarily asking 'questions'
but I would nevertheless welcome, any redirection as to facts

Surely, if a house is positively pressurised with filtered /clean air
~whenever someone enters or leaves the house... ie: via a porch
['enclosed' hallway / airlock]
~the escaping positive pressure from inside, prevents incursion of air from outside

With the temperatures being mentioned..~in the weather thread
I do know, that different forms of refrigeration plant
will be incorporated into AC units... varying [only] by manufacturer and model

~ the air inside an igloo can be kept a couple of degrees above freezing
by the presence of two or three persons / a candle
simply because the chimney vent is so much smaller than the entrance void

~conversely, in a house subjected to, high environmental temperatures
a larger roof vent that include fans [extractors] will be beneficial
and a reflective/insulating exterior surface, will reduce cooling bills

Perhaps there is a use that could be made of Vermiculite [either boards or paint applications]
For, radiant and conductive heat-insulation purposes

I only spent around $40 or $50 each for mine. I have one in every major room. the filters cost 17 and need to be replaced every 3 months. I've had them for at least 7 years now... they make all the difference here... And like I said, NO DUST!! :) (that is if I change the filters when I'm supposed to but sometimes I forget and the top of my china cabinet reminds me. :) )

mine are small... I did my research on what to buy when I selected them ... but have long since forgot what I learned. the have hepa something or another I think. and there was a ratio that meant very little would be able to get through the filter. I select a carbon backed filter for air freshening and oder control.
I do not have a fireplace. I do, however, have a bird and he and his food are very dusty. He really needs two in his room but he only has one right now. Mine are great I love them to pieces. And, NO, no dusting if I change the filters in time (eveary three months).. I do wipe a cloth over my wooden furniture once a month or so.. but that's it.. I'm too busy to keep after house keeping so I had to find shortcuts, especially when I was in college. I took online classes my and my last year of school I worked two jobs. ..I go long periods of time with absolutely no dust when I run them the way the instructions said... Mine have an iodizer button. I keep it on. that just makes the dust fall to the floor so the vacuums can pick it up (or at least that is how I understand it)

I have mixed emotions about filters of various kinds. I've had a bunch of them, and some I couldn't tell whether they did anything or not. The one I have now was $500, and I can't tell that it does anything. Of course, this is Oklahoma with tons of dust - and we have dogs that are in and out numerous times per day. My next purchase will be to treat just the bedroom, so it will be smaller and hopefully cheaper. I'm thinking about one with an ionizer, but I plan to do my homework before spending another dime.

We also will have painters coming to paint the inside of our house...we were told it will take about 10 days.

All the walss and ceilings need painting...
some minor holes repaired...
we have a 2400 sq foot house...
plus the closets and their doors. Too much work for hubby and I any more.

We, could only focus, upon a single room at a time, too!

Too much.... 'all at once', for peeps of our level of maturity :) ;)
