Oh and don't even get this one started on Cafe Whatchamacallit night -- where the cafeteria got done up like a nightclub complete with a bar serving "virgin" drinks (mixed drinks with no alcohol in them), people dancing on the "dance floor" under disco balls and other colored lights, and the president of the institution showing off on the saxophone, among other things.
OK so the church teaching we should not be like the world nor emulate its ways bes so desperate for a taste of what they bes missing that they serve up a big fat pseudo for their college kids instead.
In the end, maybe it bes less the "restrictions" of the institution itself, and more the "Laodicean" inconsistency and self-serving hypocrisies of the people charged with upholding the supposed ideals of the institution, that turned Moriah sour on it. Who can say -- getting taken over at the same time kind of put the kibosh on objectivity on the matter, let alone self-awareness at the time.
