WASHINGTON (AFP) - US Vice President (news - web sites) Dick Cheney (news - web sites) said he had no regrets about using the F-word in a confrontation with a Democratic senator this week.

"I said it...and I felt better after I said it," Cheney told Fox News Channel in an interview, with Congress still buzzing over the vice president's outburst.

Cheney and Senator Patrick Leahy clashed as lawmakers gathered for an annual photographic session in the Senate chamber, Leahy's spokesman said Thursday. Cheney's position as vice president makes him president of the senate.

After the photo shoot, Cheney approached Leahy and protested the senator's recent criticism of Halliburton, the huge Defense Department contractor accused of profiteering in Iraq (news - web sites), said the senator's spokesman David Carle.

Carle said Leahy had reminded Cheney that he had once called Leahy a bad Catholic, to which Cheney responded either "f..k you" or "f..k yourself."

"That's not the kind of language I ordinarily use. I expressed my dissatisfaction with Senator Leahy," Cheney told Fox in explaining his action.

"He is the kind of individual who would make those kinds of charges and then come act as though he's your best friend and I expressed my views of his conduct and walked away."

Cheney went on: "He had challenged my integrity and I didn't like that.

"But most of all I didn't like the fact that after he'd done so that he wanted to act like everything is peaches and cream and I informed him of my view of his conduct...and like I said I felt better afterwards."

Cheney felt better cursing, because it is easier to be abusive than to admit the mistakes he has made. God does not have to be the issue, but lack of respect and abusive language should...especially for someone who is supposed to be a role model for America's youth. But then America seems to have a problem nowadays finding anyone who can meet the criteria.

I LOVE CHENEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Bout time someone said somehting to those jerks who keep running their mouhts like they know what's going on. Cheney's my hero now. It's gotta be getting old having all these guys making stuff up and spreading it around. I bet that senator was about to need a change of pants.
And you know what? I'm a Christian but I don't blame him a bit. People can only stand so much.
AND FOR ALL YOU WHO ARE DISDAINING CHENEY! Him who is without sin, throw the first stone!

This is not a stateman. The swagger and attitude are not what I want in a leader. Halliburton has more people in Iraq than our ally England has troops so it is a justifiable point to explore. It is also important to note that it was not Leahy who started the discussion it was Chaney who went up to Leahy to pick a fight.

Yuppers - the same ones who cry "censorship" at the fining of Howard Stern are now going to be the same ones to jump all over Cheney, simply because he's Cheney - Bush's second man. Double standards at work again, I'm sure.

I did give this some thought, though. Personally, I do believe he should apologize for his language, when given the opportunity to do so in the media. Not to me, not to Leahy, mind you...but for the kids like my 13-year-old who I've tried to teach to never say the f-bomb. These kids look up to their country's administration & it would be nice if he did it for them. Inside I'm secretly smiling that he told his "back-stabbing, fake friend" exactly how he felt, but have no doubt Cheney will be the bigger person in the end. :)

Bono dropped the F-bomb on tv (before the FCC rules starting getting enforced better), but I've forgiven him. My son never heard or saw it, though. If he did and had asked me, I would have been happy to tell my son that the man is a devout Christian, show's he's human, yet demonstrates morals, humility, and concern for suffering in the world. He wasn't nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize for nuttin'!

My priorities are more with fighting to keep overtly sexual suggestiveness & immoral behaviors from being shoved in my children's faces from just about everywhere they turn....than to be too concerned about the Vice President showing he's human & made a "mistake" with his language.

sorry. its one Fbomb, ok. its not right. but i worry about things a liiiittle more important. AND ive never said one thing when a (D) cursed.
i worry about content. too many great men through out history have probably cursed a whole lot more than the VP to make me think its a serious character flaw.
