this is certainly worth reading ;

C.S. Lewis
(C.S. Lewis) "Burrowing into his past, he was appalled at what he found…'I have found out ludicrous and terrible things about my own character. Sitting by, watching the rising thoughts to break their necks as they pop up, one learns to know the sort of thoughts that do come. And, will you believe it, one out of every three is a thought of self-admiration: when everything else fails, having had its neck broken, up comes the thought "What an admirable fellow I am to have broken their necks!" I catch myself posturing before the mirror, so to speak, all day long. I pretend I am carefully thinking out what to say to the next pupil (for his good, of course) and then suddenly realize I am really thinking how frightfully clever I'm going to be and how he will admire me…. when you force yourself to stop it, you admire yourself for doing that. It's like fighting the hydra…There seems to be no end to it. Depth under depth of self-love and self-admiration…Pride…is the mother of all sins, and the original sin of Lucifer." (Green and Hooper, C.S Lewis: A Biography. p. 105.)

Oh, but when someone makes a personal statement, it is imperative to have them clarify exactly what they mean by the terms they use personally, and not another source.

If people had done that with Obama, we would not have a died in the wool 60's radical marxist in the White House now.

So, since you make the statement of your own conviction, please kindly clarify exactly what you mean by the terms you use, specifically "hatred".

Thanks in advance.

Nice passage. What does that have to do with you giving a clear definition stating what you think constitutes, "hatred"?

Do you think it unfair to seek clarification from someone who uses the term but is unwilling to define what they mean by the term?

What do you want TJ? My OP is clear that those that attack others will not be allowed to post here. Just don't attack anyone and you'll be fine. ;):D

My request is clear.

Do I need to repost it for you?

Very well:

Please define, clearly, what constitutes, "hatred".

That is all purely subjective, and does not address the question asked you about the term that you used, being "hatred".

Just saying the word is purely subjective, and can be anything.

Therefore, I am kindly asking you to define the term you use, clearly.

What is so hard about that?

I believe that TJ has a valid concern here.

Hate is actually a critical aspect of love. God is love, and yet He hates certain things which are contrary to His love.

If I love God, I will hate what is contrary to God, that's essential.

The problem is not hate, but indifference.

It's actually very impractical to love God (or anything for that matter) and not hate what is contrary to that love.

My experience has been that it is hate not indifference. There is very little in this forum that is "contrary" to God unless one just "hates" the opposition. Most trouble makers here come in with an agenda.

That's the point, it's fairly normal to hate what is opposite to what a person believes.

That is true, we have serveral here now, and I am sad to say, this thread and the principles it was meant to establish, is not working.

One trouble maker that left when this area was closed last year is back, and picked up right where he left off.

There is a ton of anti-calvinists in this room.

And if it wasn't for some of the more "hard-core" Calvinists here, this area would be inundated (flooded) with their rhetoric.

Brother, I have the utmost respect for you, but it isn't working.

God Bless

Till all are one.

I'm afraid you are right. Resentment and contempt runs deep here. It is really a shame since from my perspective a mainstream soteriology position is not a requirement for salvation. It's a pity that folks here have not chosen to be a light that shines to all that are in the house (Matt. 5).

That's the point, it's fairly normal to hate what is opposite to what a person believes.

Although I'm going to assume you didn't mean it that way, your statement sounds a little like trying to justify an attitude of hatred toward the opposition.

One can hate doctrines that are clearly against Scripture, but that does not extend to hating the individuals who hold those doctrines. And that's the point here. Consider also that what constitutes correct doctrine is a matter of subjective interpretation in many cases. The hatred for Calvinism expressed by some has spilled over into a clear hatred for its supporters, and that is what must not be allowed to continue.

God has the right to hate individuals. We don't. We are instructed to pray for our enemies, and love our enemies. Who are our enemies? those who oppose the Gospel, who hate the Lord Jesus Christ, who hate God, who advocate the elimination of Christianity, and Christians. I haven't seen a single Calvinist fit that description, nor have I seen any other person who names the Name of Christ who fits that description.

Bottom line, Calvinists are not the enemy, nor are anti-Calvinists. In this forum the anti-Calvinists have expressed hatred toward Calvinists, without just cause, and in contravention of their own confessions of faith.
