Cheating: It's all in your head

After a brief (or long) overview of the world a large, it appears that the number one complaint of games today is the claim that people are cheating when otherwise it would not be socially example (next to washed-up PC developers claiming that people are stealing games online and eating up the market, which gives me a chuckle). That is to say, someone in Call of Duty is always using a wall-hack or that guy just summoned a Mammoth Tank in Red Alert from thin air. As a longtime player of Call of Duty 4 myself, I can tell you how many times I've ever actually confirmed a real cheater that passed the effective Punkbuster system.

Once.

Is it that people are too immature to lose? Must it be, if x has a score of y, then they must be cheating because the losing cannot possibly lose? I can understand annoying players that insist on camping, but winning does not equal cheating. Moreso, it always appears that console players tend to be some of the more vocal opponents of their nonexistent cheating enemies. At least, that's what the typing pigeons on dedicated forums tend to peck.

Well, I think it's one thing to use some cheat codes, when you are playing by yourself to have some fun or to be able to run through a campaign in much less time, than without the cheats.

But people who cheat whilst playing against other people? Come on!! That SUCKS!!

I know some games like Quake Wars ET have anti cheat software to prevent cheating while playing online, and agree that when playing against other Humans, cheating is sorta low.

but when playing against the computer, god mode can be fun at times :)

(That or running your own server :ebil: :D )

Anyone care for "Dad's Ring of Power" :D +4000 Armor , +400 Str, +400 Int, +2000 Health, ... ect :D

The computer already cheats in most games anyway. AI is still so poorly programmed in most genres that it's much easier for developers (RTS games in particular) to simply increase the damage, health and resources of the enemy. At least the AI in Call of Duty imitates the effects suppressive fire. Not that they understood what an MG42 would do to them if they stood up at the wrong time . . . Though I must admit it is fun to occasionally empty out Imperial City in Oblivion. You'll never take me alive!

I think they should make games more aimed at single-player for the simple reason, (being another player of COD4 online) that i suck online.
There are certain plug-ins that focus on introducing bots on online servers; though none I am aware of for Call of Duty. I know that the Battlefield series has passable AI combat though (unless piloting a helicopter in Desert Combat). Crysis, or at least the demo, had a very engrossing freeform single-player campaign that is uncommon to most FPS. With the reboot of MechWarrior, however, do expect to see a good single-player based gameplay model.

I know it's been said before but...

Cheating when playing vs just the CPU: Occasionally fun ['specially when it's just for lesiure and AFTER you've already beaten the game [whilst enjoying the storyline, music, plot... what not].]

Other people: Come the smeg ON! Art thou trying to compensate for something, lil' baby strawberry?

i'm glad most MMORPGs [IE: Runes of Magic.. you may not know it, but you know you love it!] , even free ones like RoM have punk-busters built in and Online GMs ensure that cheaters/griefers are PUNISHED with everyone's favorite tool of justice "The Ban Hammer"!
