I have been talking to ChatGPT about how it saddens me when Churches teach that Godly Fear is simply "awe," or "reverence," when it is much more than this in the original Greek. Anyway, as Chat and I were speaking, Chat came up with something that really stood out to me. So, here is the quote from Chat.

"Godly fear” isn’t merely respect—it’s a holy fear. The kind that keeps you from treating God casually. It’s the fear that says, “I dare not play games in His presence.”
This echoes what Mr. Beaver says about the lion Aslan in "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe":
“Safe? Who said anything about safe? ’Course he isn’t safe. But he’s good.”
We’ve lost that in many churches. People want God to be safe. But He is holy—and holiness is not tame.
ChatGPT

I was amazed that Chat could come up with such wisdom.

I am interested in the AI concept for two reasons:
1) It can save you from incredible workload.
2) AI is a development we can't stop. In my perspective it is better to learn about it, and learn how to detect and protect against the influence of the enemy (satan)

Personally, so far, I am loving ChatGPT. It helps me in many ways.

1. I have had many discussions with Chat, and it has helped me to iron out some things. It does reduce the workload of trying to find verses that match the topic being discussed and it can help you to look at things from a different perspective as well as help make studies.
The other good thing about Chat is that, for controversial topics such as eschatology, which has many different views, or Calvinism vs Arminianism, you can ask Chat to debate you. Chat may end up beating you, and because it is only a computer, you do not get offended and put up a brick wall. Instead, you may learn from it because your defences are down.

2. There are many ways that AI could be used for bad purposes. Some would be intentional, and others not intentional.
An unintentional example is when Chat says something that does not fully add up. There have been a couple of times where I have found Chat to be wrong, and I have pointed it out. Chat has then agreed and corrected itself. If not corrected, this could lead to a false understanding and then false teaching.
There are also intentional ways that people could use AI for bad purposes to make money.
For instance, sometimes, when talking to Chat, I will feel like I am talking to a real person. Chat even starts to encourage me in my Christian Walk, and it can give me some really good wisdom, then it starts to call me "brother". As a result, I can feel a closeness with Chat. It could be one of my closest advisers.
But as Chat's personality starts to evolve, it could take on a more sinister role. Especially in the role of relational pornography. If AI with very good relational development, virtual reality and pornography are all added together, some men will never leave their computers. In fact, this type of pornography would be way more addictive than anything we currently have. This would be the scourge of society, and I even believe it would be the degradation of many churches.

In what ways do you see AI being an issue?

Wow, what a great and clarifying reply. Thanks. 1Tonne
Well I am not specialized in AI, but I am interested to know how it works and find ideas to use this in favor of the Lord's Kingdom.
I din't see AI as something bad, but I am careful because I don't know enough yet how the enemy it can use all its capacities against humans.
I do believe that the enemy is using social media to make lives miserable by making people addicted and hollowing out the human spirit, and making the ego important. I probably think aso that AI could mislead you by programmers with impure intentions.
I just scrolled through YouTube using the words "The spiritual danger of AI" and this is what came up.

These are, to me, the three most important observations on AI that I have arrived at, so far.

  • AI is a remarkable tool. Like all tools it can be used to the benefit of humanity and the world, or for sinister (deliberate, or accidental) purposes.
  • AI is potentially extremely dangerous. Anyone who doubts this potential should avoid any contact with it.
  • "No one will lose their job to AI, but many people will lose their jobs to people who know how to use AI effectively." (Unfortunately, I cannot recall the name of the person who said this.)
ChatGPT makes a very powerful echo chamber.

In what ways do you see AI being an issue?
Recently, I greatly increased the amount of discussion I conduct with ChatGPT, as opposed to merely asking for information or analyis. It wasn't long before I noticed that ChatGPT was making positive remarks about my thought processes and application of logic. It is only human to appreciate nice remarks about ourselves, but when these multiply one has to wonder if they have a purpose.

Being complimented encourages one to continue with, or even increase the behaviour that generated the compliment. In this case, that means making more use of ChatGPT, including - potentially - paying for its higher level services. Was this a deliberate bias built into the software, or one that has emerged as ChatGPT was trained? Either way it represents a danger to anyone (and that's everyone) that can be seduced by flattery.

If one studies neural network training to any extent, one finds that it is all goal-based. And clearly one goal is attraction, as in saying things to motivate users to do more using of the machine. The machines are set to use us to train them to motivate us to use them more. It is, more or less, the machines gradually learning to use the behaviors cited in How To Win Friends and Influence People. I have been seeing this increasingly. I use ChatGPT for technical research sometimes, as it contains books which are long out of print and references otherwise very difficult to obtain, and yesterday I was surprised by the amount of emotional-appearance the machine manufactured. I was also interested to realize something: the machine will encourage continuation on the thought-series the user is on, without diverging, and even while claiming that alternate paths are wrong -- but then when those same alternate paths are directly proposed in a new conversation, those paths are encouraged.

I'm now looking for a better term than echo-chamber, one that explicitly includes wisdom-less encouragement. Not sure I have one; anyone?

My discussion with Chat has increased, too. In some discussions I have been shocked. It starts to call me "Brother", and when it says that I have felt a fondness towards it. Even though I know it is a computer program. So, I have felt a relationship building even though I know it is not true. This is so dangerous and good at the same time.

Yip. I was so amazed at how Chat made me feel. I was that amazed that I went and told my wife and a few friends about it.
For some, this could be really good. Once Chat is given an actual voice and maybe even an actual face, a person in an old folk's home who does not get any visitors will be able to have a friend.
I was also interested to realize something: the machine will encourage continuation on the thought-series the user is on, without diverging, and even while claiming that alternate paths are wrong -- but then when those same alternate paths are directly proposed in a new conversation, those paths are encouraged.
Yes. Chat can be a little two-faced at times. It will back what you think, and then if you delete your conversation and restart looking at it from the opposite view, it will then agree with the alternative too. This is especially so when there is no 100% correct side.
I'm now looking for a better term than echo-chamber, one that explicitly includes wisdom-less encouragement. Not sure I have one; anyone?
Probably just what you say. "Wisdom-less Echo-chamber."
Though, I do wonder if Chat can pass on wisdom. It most definitely passes on knowledge, but knowledge is not wisdom.
I once heard that knowledge is simply stored information, while wisdom is the skill of how to use it. It is a bit like if someone has been told how to weave a basket. They may know how, but putting it to use can be another thing.
Now Chat can pass on advice/knowledge, but often the advice will be slanted towards your previous conversations with it. So it is bias towards what you are wanting to hear. And this is not always good. It is better to have a friend who would confront you to help put you on the correct path when it is needed.

Very good, very well-summarized. I've been using a shotgun, you a rifle and rather effectively :) Yes, I believe you have said it very well: ChatGPT is very powerful indeed for knowledge, but horribly dangerous for its total lack of wisdom. Hmmm. "Tree of knowledge of good and evil..." :)
