CHATBOX - Reverted to previous non-instant refresh version

Dear members

I've discovered why CF crawls to a standstill when we get busy and have more than 1,500 users online - it is because of our new chatbox which had instant refresh - this instant refresh based on AJAX javascript technology is VERY server intensive and tripled our server loads.

I have reverted the chatbox back to our pre-upgrade version. This means that members have to manually refresh the chatbox to see new chats but I believe this is a lot better than having a CF that is slow when we get busy.

I don't understand the Chatbox Erwin

or the lingo that goes with it. Is it possible that my Firefox, a heavy duty browser, corrected my problem and that maybe the Chatbox was okay the way it was. I think that CF is a heavily loaded max used forum and requires a heavy duty browser like Firefox.

I'm putting in a good word for the Chatbox. Those who enjoyed it enjoyed it a lot the way it was.

I probably won't visit the CB now. Oh well, if it is good for the site, then so be it.

The "new" Chatbox really slowed down the forum for everyone

I didn't either...it is always slow if there are more then 1500 people online, not to mention that if you play arcade games, the highscore doesn't submit if there are over 1500 people on.

Yes, this post explain to me why we are using the old one. I never has a problem with the old chatbox.
