So what did everyone think of this movie?? I miust say I loved it. Johnny Depp adds such characteristics to the part. I have never gone to see a movie on opening day so today was a first. IMAX is a must!!!!

Is it really any good to go see? I read the Calendar in the newspaper today and it got 5 stars...but I don't know, I thought it kind of looked weird. If it's at least worth seeing, I'll go and see it maybe, but I think I'll still like Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory the best.

Something about Johnny Depp's expression and pose on the movie poster seriously reminded me of the main character from A Clockwork Orange

I really enjoyed it...I thought it added a lot to the old movie but it had a lot of the same characteristics as the first one. I don't think anyone but Johnny Depp could have played the part to even compare to Gene Wilder. I really liked the movie...a lot quirkier than the first i thought!

My hubby is still trying to convince me to see it... I adore Gene Wilder and the original, but I also think Johnny Depp is an amazing actor and if anybody was to play Willy Wonka besides Gene Wilder, it would be Johnny Depp... but... but... the Oompa Loompas look so WEIRD! LOL

Just got back from it a little while ago.


In a word - HILARIOUS! I was rolling on the floors laughing! The kid who played Augustus Gloop had me in stitches. And the oompa-loompa songs were side-splitting.

Some people are saying it reminds them a little of Michael Jackson and Neverland, lol, but I've heard a lot of good reviews about it. I'll probably go see it.

Saw it. Laughed, teared up. Will see it again.

Actually liked the storyline better than the original movie. More of a redemptive plot.

It did remind me a lot of Michael Jackson and his little childs world.
I liked it.
Mostly because I love Johny Depp and Tim Burton movies.
It might scare young children.
Mine youngest is 9 and it didn't scare him at all.
I recommend it.

This was an amazing movie. I loved it. This is NOT a remake. The 1971 version stands on its on as does this one. Go see this movie with fresh eyes. Do not compare it to the 1971 movie.

i just took my daughter to see it and as a BIG fan of the original i must say i was not really impressed. depp was a little weird, but so is tim burton for that matter! the original left so much more to the imagination and was not such a dark comedy. depp said that he was not attempting to portray wonka as michael jackson, but if he wasn't i couldn't tell. i was waiting for him to break out with "Beat It" and moonwalk down the chocolate river!

Well I've never met him so I can't say for certain . Also, have you seen the 1971 movie? The subject matter in that movie squares pretty much with this movie, so you may want to use the 1971 movie as your guide. I'll point out some observations, however:

There's a scene where some plastic dolls melt in a fire, and we get a pretty up-close view of their plastic faces melting. Your brother will either laugh or be horrified.

There are five separate scenes of pre-adolescent children in peril. Although everything works out fine in the end (more or less), these scenes could be a little much for him.

There's absolutely no sexual content at all, save for the fact that the audience gets a very fleeting glimpse of Veruca Salt's underpants when her skirt flips up.

There is one pretty violent scene where Mike Teevee is blasting away at monsters and zombies on a video game. The camera looks over Mike's shoulder at the screen for a few seconds.

I wouldn't have any qualms about taking a 6-year-old to it, but I know that a lot of American kids these days are complete sissies, so use your judgment. Did he like the Harry Potter movies? If he did he'll make it through this one OK.

wow, sissy is kinda strong, but i have a 5 year old girl and i took here to see it. i thought a couple of scenes were a little violent, but she did not seem upset so i pushed past it. as i said earlier this is a lot darker than the original. you could imagine the situations in the original, but in this version they leave nothing to the imagination.

Thanks for the head's up for screenit.com....My kids loved "Willie Wonka..." and I think my grand kids will love..."Charlie....". Gosh, Johnny Depp has a wide range..this is a long ways from Scissorhands...or The Secret Window...

Always the unusual though...
