There is only one standard, and it's the word of God. Read my response to Renee. Having a mate divorce you without biblical cause does not disqualify you for ministry.

I think that our church loving divorced people, making them feel welcome and showing them love and care, patience and kindness is a phenomenal example. I reckon about 65% of people on our housing estate are divorced. This is a great thing.

Of course every divorce is a tragedy, especially when children are involved. I am not extolling divorce, just extolling a response of grace to it.

Divorce is not the unforgiveable sin, it is not the end of a life.

Such a great teacher of the word - but dismisses the pentecostal experience.

How can this be ?

He says it has passed away (corinthians) similar to what the JW's say and other cessationists.

But I will say this, those that say the experience makes our walk with God better and it leads to a more fruitful life both for ourselves and others.....I disagree.

I have met more Spirit baptised "fruitcakes" than in any other group.

Maybe Mr Stanley has been put off.

He seems to be unaware of the Holy Spirit's presence.

the fact is, he is divorced, promised to step down when it happened...then renegotiates staying? sorry. that spells all kind of wrong.

Perhaps the reason why he stayed in the pulpit is because of all the thousands of people who wrote him to stay and preach?

I get really tired of all the people who feel it's their job to judge!

Don't judge and critisize him. Instead, do the right thing and pray for him and speak life into his life if you think its 'such a mess'.

Disciple, one could easily accuse you with the fact that you tell other people's personal business that really, aint none of ours.

I like Charles Stanley. I actually have a few books of his. My favorite one is on spiritual warfare. At least he doesn't put demons in people, or call down fire from heaven with the authority of Baal. I did not know about his cessationist points, which is sad to know. He must know that we do not receive power until the Holy Spirit comes upon us. Not all speak in tongues though. I view this as when the gospel is preached, tongues follow, but not all have the gift of tongues. That is my view on tongues as a sign in Mark 16:17. I received the gift of tongues about a year and a half ago. I am just a teenager in the Spirit, so leave me alone you bullies. Be blessed.

The still-divorced part is quite true. Yeah, it probably would have been better had he kept his word and stepped down.
That's part of the reason Andy Stanley (his son) left FBA to start his own church.

Because Jesus said that he that divorces his wife and marries another, except it be for fornication, commits adultery. And he that marries her that it is divorced commits adultery.

Jesus also taught that those who are sick need a physician. He at with publicans and sinners, ministering to them. Jesus forgave and ministered to people who had sinned.

The Bible also teaches that an elder of the church should rule his house well.

I do respect Charles Stanley for choosing to remain unmarried in his situation.

That's correct.

He was biblical about it. If she had committed adultery and broke their marriage covenant, then Mr. Stanley would have been allowed to remarry.
