There is a thought experiment, going like this: If I took one of your neurons and replaced it with silicon-based one, is it still you? If yes, what about two, three...etc till all your body is silicon based.

Is there a precise moment in which you cease to be you?
That goes back to the argument of whether the mind is an artifact of the brain or if one's soul transcends one's brain.
That argument is tied to related arguments,
  • Mechanism vs. Vitalism &
  • Evolution vs. Intelligent Design.
Diehard proponents of AI propose that the more we emulate human neurology, such a mind will emerge.
That the more agency we give machines, they will develop identities and associated subjective preferences (proving once and for all the meat-mind hypothesis).

I believe that AI research will, in fact, "prove" the opposite. They might even duplicate the brain, but the mind/soul will be absent.
Even identical twins show that duplicate brains do not produce duplicate minds...

Brains amount to organic PLCs.
