Flaming and Goading
Please treat all members with respect and courtesy through civil dialogue.
Do not personally attack other members or groups of members on CF. Address only the content of the post and not the poster.
NO Goading. This includes images, cartoons, or smileys clearly meant to goad.
Stating or implying that another Christian member, or group of members, are not Christian is not allowed.
If you are flamed, do not respond in-kind. Alert staff to the situation by utilizing the report button.

We have updated the following rule to include the sentence in red:

Blasphemy and Contempt of Christianity
It is considered blasphemy to insult or mock Christianity or any part of the Trinity-Father (God), Son (Jesus) and the Holy Spirit. Honest debate about the nature of God and Christian Theology is allowed, but derogatory remarks are not. Contemptuous remarks regarding Christianity or Christian practices are not allowed.

We have added transsexualism and transgenderism to the list of topics that are restricted on CF:

Topics Requiring Special Consideration:
Transsexualism and transgenderism may only be discussed, without promotion*, in the Struggles with Sexuality and Ask a Chaplain forums solely for the purpose of seeking support with personal struggles related to these issues. Members may not promote* transsexualism or transgenderism in their profiles.

If you have any questions or concerns please start a thread in the Member Services Center.

Am I to understand that a discussion on a "bathroom bill" such as came up recently in Houston and just the other day in Georgia is now off limits?

I'll bring your question up with the Admins/Advisors for discussion.

NO Goading.

I would suggest that the topic of the Holocaust / Hitler be added as a restricted topic
as it causes escalation of emotions and rarely leads to useful discussion.
Many discussion boards have this ban in place.

I saw a CNN report recently which explained. A real man was married to a man becoming a woman. She looked like every other woman and was afraid of entering a rest room for men, as his/her birth certificate read. Amen?

All very nice but, like most forums, there much of what is vague and subjective. When you say 'members' are you referring to Christians or the people on CF generally? As far as what is truly disrespectful and discourteous, who decides? Would the harsh words of Jesus to the Pharisees be barred from this site (Matthew 23)? Also, what constitutes an 'attack' on members? Would Paul be allowed to denounce Peter for his hypocrisy (Galatians 2:11-14)? Would he be able to openly curse, with the strongest language possible, the Judaizers in Galatia (Galatians 1:8-9)? Finally, do we see a hint of the deceitful spirit of 'ecumenical unity' in the forbidding of the implying that another 'Christian' member, or group of members, are not Christian? Are 'Roman Catholic' 'members' out of bounds. What about 'Mormon' members or 'Jehovah's Witnesses'? If they are then the definition of Christianity has changed greatly, and for the worst, in these last days. If they are not, then are we violating the rules by implying what the rules forbid we imply?

What we need to understand is that genuine Christianity is, by nature, highly offensive to human beings. Many times it is very difficult, even for those who truly are 'in Christ'. It is based on God's 'truth' which people hate! It is utterly exclusive of, and strenuously opposed to, all other religion and of all of the errors that occur within its strict boundaries. It is not the way of 'political correctness'. The true Christian will offend many, especially those who profess Christ in word but deny Him in reality. What they have to say will frequently move outside the bounds of "respect and courtesy" and "civil dialogue." There will be what can only be described as 'personal attack' when the person is an obvious and obstinate blasphemer, pagan and/or heretic. To be silent in such cases, for the sake of civility or unity, is to be ashamed of the Word and the Gospel.

We must not offend for the sake of offense. We must avoid language that is not proper for those who profess Christ. We must operate out of concern for others. Nevertheless we must have the Lord and His word at the forefront of our every dealing with people, even when it is interpreted by people as offensive, exclusive, disrespectful, discourteous, and uncivil. In brief, I hope that the guidelines for this forum will be dictated by the Bible, and the Spirit, and not by any committee operating out of anything beside the truth of God, love for that truth, and the way of the cross.

How are we suppose to correct distorted views on sexuality if we can't discuss them?

I see that regarding transgenderism, yet this topic is being discussed in the political forums here due to NC and Mississippi recent laws on the use of public bathrooms.

I can't use my cute little smileys anymore? They are usually done as comic relief. How do we define GOADING?
Thanks.

Contemptuous remarks regarding Christianity or Christian practices are not allowed.
So who defines what are protected "Christian practices" ?
There's threads about worship music and how some forms are insulting, by definition of this rule, that's wouldn't be allowed now.

I'm glad thats added. I assume that means non-believers who just mock God instead of having a legit debate can get in trouble. Because thats wonderful if they can. To often they just make fun of Christians in any debate calling God "Your invisible sky fairy!".

I to am curious about if/how we can talk about the current hot topic of LGBT being able to use any bathroom they wish.

Sorry we missed this!

Yes you can use the cute smileys :)

Sometimes people goad others with images instead of words though, including smileys. That's what the rule refers to.

Conversation is an art, and in forums there is a delicate balance between expressing one's mind and those gray areas that can lead to bad feelings. I am sure it takes some wisdom for moderators to decide if a conversation has gone down a bad path. I think most people are self correcting. They might push the boundaries. But nobody wants to get kicked off, so I imagine that's pretty good motivation to do a little rethink from time to time.
