CHANGED: Chatbox no longer allows bbcode but you can still post smilies

This new change is because of recent abuses of the chatbox where members have impersonated other members and staff, or have posted ridiculously huge pictures.

The chatbox is for chat - the absence of bbcode does not detract from this.

IMHO complete removal of VBcode is a good move as long as it is temporary. Is there any way we can have partial priviledges to the codes; i.e., some codes but not others?

Possible. Which codes should we allow though? All have the potential to be misused.

What about having a set of firm rules on how the the codes may be used? And if it's possible, maybe have some kind of "report" system like the one for posts?

the spoiler buttons werent abused much. The glowy things were. And the shurk one used a move code that was manipulated (not by me. Honest) to make all of the posts below it move.

I think bold, size, spoiler, and color can't be abused. Umm, Can't think of any others off the top of my head.

I liked the italics code because it looks better than *this* or THIS. Especiallly if I want to use one when I want to stress a word, another to hint to what I'm doing and the third for shouting (which I never do, but it's handy to have - just in case )

Anyway, I would just keep the text formatting (minus the text size) to make it easier to communicate. Since we cannot hear the tone of voice people use, we need to use text formatting to emmulate it. Not to mention, people like me cannot remember all of the emoticon codes. I usually don't chat and the forums have those handy icons to click on.

Hmmm, in all of this rambling, I had another idea. Maybe the chatbox can have it's own set of icons to click on. That way, lazy people like me can not have to remember all of that.

Just a suggestion or two.
