In another thread, someone made this comment:
99%. That's the probability I assign to the truth of the theory of evolution because I am willing to accept that I could be wrong.
If this is your sentiment as well, were you wrong about Pluto being our ninth planet?

That's not really the same intent with what I was talking about with regards to evolution.

Why are you so obsessed with Pluto anyway?

Pluto is the best example I can think of, since it was ... as far as I know ... universally accepted as our ninth planet.

Had I made this thread using Phlogiston or Nebraska Man, people would be telling me they never believed in that in the first place.

I'm looking for responses from those who were honestly wrong about something, and want to see if they're willing to admit it, and not just say they would.

This thread is to see if they're willing to put feet to their words.

But it's not the same as when I said that I am 99% sure that evolution is correct but I still could be wrong.

Pluto is purely about classing it as either a planet, a dwarf planet or a simple celestial object. It doesn't change that there is a massive thing out there in space called Pluto.

There's an endless plethora of minor planets within close proximity of our solar system that are bigger and better than Pluto. I've always assumed that most people have known that since primary school.

But I'm sure this thread isn't as innocent as I'm translating it; I just think it pays to take things at face value on here.

I didn't create this thread to discuss Pluto; and I'm not going to.

This thread isn't about Pluto, per se. It's about people who hold the sentiment as expressed in the OP, and their willingness to back it up.

Please feel free to vote either YES or NO.

I'd appreciate it.

I'd appreciate it if you didn't take what I said, which refers specifically to creation and evolution, and use it for one of these asinine 'challenge' threads of yours.

But I'll throw you a bone and vote NO. Planets and such have never really interested me (especially not to your level of fanaticism).

That's why I left your name off of it.

You're welcome.

No, of course not. It's about you.

When Pluto was the ninth planet, I knew that fact. When it was reclassified, I also knew that fact. Though I wasn't around, I would have known that Ceres was the ninth planet to be discovered (and the 5th in orbital distance, the 9th being Neptune), but it too was reclassified and is no longer considered a planet.

Is an SUV a car or a trunk?

Why did you vote NO then?

Can ya read?

When it was the 9th planet, I knew that.
When it wasn't, I knew that, too.
I did not make the reclassification decision, nor the original one. So when the IAU changed its mind it wasn't that could have been wrong.

Fair enough.

I'm not going to judge anyone in this thread.

The votes (or lack thereof) say it all.

"No"

The common classification of planet changed, not the status if the bodies involved.

When Pluto was still called a planet we already knew it had a different orbit and make up to the rest of the planets.

Kirk: We ... we've been whiplashed back in time!
Spock: Affirmative, captain. The year is ... 1968.
Kirk: Look. Their records are showing Pluto as their ninth planet.
Spock: Apparently that is the extent of their technology so far.
KirK: But they're wrong.
Spock: Affirmative. But they don't know it yet.
Kirk: Someone should tell them.
Spock: Negative, captain. Remember our Prime Directive.
Kirk: Oh, yeah. Thanks.
