  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Challenge for...well...anyone.

So...I have been recently reading about some flat earth ideas, out of curiosity. My challenge is for somebody to come up with a coherent, logical chain of events which show that we would not, presently, have the ability to discuss such matters on an internet, with computers, and all that technology, UNLESS we know that the earth is round.

I think it can be done, but possess not the expertise to make it happen.

I will be ultra critical of all attempts.

A flat network would work as well as a sphere shape.
Well, no. Satellites help a lot.

And what I find really intriguing is the fact that the president of the Flat Earth Society is not a creationist, but an evolutionist..... But seems people always try to blame that theory on creationists....

I see what you are saying; however, while I understand that the physics of our actual universe generally makes planets spherical, I don’t think a flat earth is IMPOSSIBLE in our actual universe.

Do you?

Yes, its pretty much impossible. Gravity makes it impossible for an object of the mass of the earth to be anything other than roughly spheroid.

You don't know much about it obviously. When the curvature of the earth we are told to expect under the current globe paradigm is tested and retested over and over and fails consistently, then it's obvious what we are told isn't true as well.

Is it flat? I'm not positive, but I do know it's not what we've been told. Which brings up the problem of realization that the globe-earthers don't currently have a viable model either. Their issue is that they are mostly ignorant of this fact and just parrot what they've been told they must believe all their life.

Sorry to disappoint you but the curvature has been repeatedly tested and confirmed. The simple evidence of a 24 hour sun in Antarctica and the rotation of the night sky in the southern and northern hemispheres adequately prove that it is impossible for the earth to be flat. Multiple other experiments just conform this.

Well, someone still needs to explain why satellites wouldn't work for a flat earth model, besides just saying they wouldn't... It's not called zero-G for nothing at a certain altitude.....

https://www.christianforums.com/threads/challenge-for-well-anyone.8077205/page-3#post-73061647

Zero-G does not mean there are no gravitational forces, it means that there is no NET gravitational force (and to be precise it is called microgravity not zero-g). Satellites orbit by balancing their orbital motion against the force of the earths gravity. On a flat earth satellites would need constant thrust to stay in place.

I'm sorry, 46.

I don't understand it either.

If my memory serves me correctly, VDTs became CRTs became CONSOLES became WORKSTATIONS became MONITORS became FLAT PANELS became LAPT...

Oh, wait!

You said FLAT EARTH ... not FLAT PANEL!

Nevermind!
Would you behave
