I'm considering it, on the side, to make a little extra money.....

just wondering if anyone else has tried it or knows anything about it?
No, I had never heard of it.

I'm not sure I see the advantage of a person with no particular expertise over Google.

Perhaps you could explain it a bit since you seem to be the one who knows the most about it here.

You can either go online or text a question to 242-242. A human tries to answer it based on past questions, personal knowledge, or by transferring the question to someone else. It's a great (non-scientific) tool when arguing between friends, and it's a fast way to look up movie times or the weather.

In order to work for ChaCha, you have to pass a number of tests that you can only take once. If you become accepted, you can choose to earn 2¢ per question or use a point-based system. Higher positions earn more money. Two cents might not seem like much, but it's not impossible to go through 100 questions or more in an hour (especially if the questions have been asked before). It's doesn't make much, but it's a nice way to earn some extra cash.

Hope this helps.

You basically watch an hour or two of training videos, and then take an exam which is essentially a mock up of the program that you use (basically, an add-on to Firefox). You are graded on both accuracy and speed, as there are many different routes you can take when answering a question. After taking the exam, you'll receive results within a couple weeks.

Higher positions are attained through other exams. The specialists basically try to answer questions the generalists (the basic position) pass on when they can't be answered right off the bat.

They don't pay a huge amount more, but ChaCha occasionally has sessions where there's an increase in the amount of money per question for a certain amount of time due to high traffic. Things like that can make a little difference.
