  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

That's great, I see you will be getting good use of them, lol.

Didn't know Photoshop was expensive, been wondering about that. Which do you prefer, have you had a chance to play around with both enough to make that decision...or is it different programs for different activities?

Well, Photoshop wasn't too expensive. I think I paid like $85-90 for it. However it is Photoshop Elements, not CS2 (or now there is CS3). Adobe's CS products (CS=Creative Suite) are the commercial/professional versions of the software. I wanted to get Photoshop CS2, but at the time I just couldn't afford $500 for it. Someday... :sigh: My Illustrator software however is CS2 (and cost $500)... So, yeah, I'm looking forward to getting my money's worth out of it! ^_^

Anyway, Photoshop and Illustrator are designed to complement each other, but they handle different tasks. Photoshop is, of course, photo-editing software. Illustrator, as the name suggests, handles more fine art. You can do some tweaks to photos in Illustrator but it's mostly messing with color or converting it to a vector drawing so you can move, delete or change lines...

I'm guessing you would want Photoshop. Unless you are a graphic designer, you would have little use for Illustrator. (I'm not a graphic designer, but it is a hobby of mine) Photoshop will let you crop photos, remove red eye, ect, ect. And even then you can still get a little more into the design arena with Photoshop... you can add textures or filters to your photos. There is a lot of neat stuff you can do, even with the mainstream version (Elements). The graphic in my signature was done in Photoshop...

It is my firm belief that Photoshop is the best photo-editing software on the market... but I may be biased since I have been using Adobe products since high school. ;) Anyway, I do think the PS Elements is totally worth the $85-90 I paid for it! So I would definitely suggest it!

I would not suggest getting Illustrator unless you are prepared to spend A LOT of time learning how to use the software. You can do hundreds of amazing things with the program... but first you have to learn how! It can be very frustrating for someone with little or no experience with graphics programs. Heck, it's still frustrating to me some times! ^_^

I know that was long-winded... I hope it helped at least! :sorry:

I think I might be interested in joining team Grace... Do you require members to use GIMP? I've read through this thread and it keeps coming up... I have Photoshop Elements 4.0 and Illustrator CS2, and I'm pretty comfortable with those programs... I'd rather not have to learn a new software... Thanks!

whatever program you want to use is fine..I just suggested Gimp cause it's freeware and can be downloaded easily...using an very old version of photoshop myself most of the time :D

will send you some more information on how we work when I get the chance t get online with my petRESCUER account :sorry: my mums gonna dye my hair now  but thank you for wanting to join us

Thank you for taking the time and sharing this info. with us Amanda:thumbsup:

Wow, this really can get expensive:eek: It'd be really worth it if it was a passionate hobby, but I'm beginning to begin;) It looks like Photoshop Element may just be the thing for us...or would Gimp (free) give us about the same options or flexability Maggie?

Know what you mean about being familiar with something, was talking with searchingforpeace yesterday about not EVER wanting to change from my Windows XP^_^

Photoshop elements and Gimp basically give you the same options...just that the program layout is different...and I found that there are a few things you can do with one of them that don't seem to work in the other - but that might just be me not knowing Gimp that well yet....

Gimp's the open source version of Photoshop...

School begin on September 5 so I have a lot of time on my hand right now. I can build really good graphic in pain shop pro.
Let start with...what words/sentence do you want me to put on the graphic?

  thank you...right now we are trying to come up with some fall/ Christmas graphics....dunno about the text yet....but we work on some for the signatures where we maybe can put our names on and some cards for guestbooks....

for the cards I would suggest "Happy Fall" or "Merry Christmas" or whatever you think fits :sorry:

and we also try to get some promoting adoption for our signatuers for this months kill day countdown....

Here's a new one...

hi all graphics peeps are we going to try to keep this as a single thread to compare notes on graphics?

I know we each have our own threads where we are keeping track of our own individual paths, but I think it would be cool to have this one as like the daily drop in/discusion regarding any news about the general forum graphics.

as this is my thinkgin I am hoping this is the thread for this. anyways, just wanted all to know that I loaded a bunch of backgrounds into the CFpetRescue account today - from the cf character backgrounds to some actual 'background' images that I felt might be used as backdrops for creating our graphics. some are just color pallets, some have designs, some are for various holidays (Like the ones I used to create the Mothers day images) and there are some nature patterns. these are all organized as such under the main folder 'backgrounds'and in the 'cf character' folder you will see a couple examples already of ideas on what I was thinking of doing to use these as I was already starting to work on some of them.

still no luck with gimp so still slow going and I am currently taking some time to dress up for a few character conests here in the BE as well - I just took grand prize for the last one I entered for 10000 blessings!! woo hoo!!

great  already ha d a look...love the pets with the angel wings :)

this thread was originally for discussion...there's gotta be another one somewhere with all the graphics in...or at least that was what it was intended for....one for discussion and one just for graphics collection where people could get the graphics from but shouldn't discuss them....
