WOW thank you soooo much!!!!I actually have a graphic ready but this site is so unstabe I can't get it on here try again tomorrow

isn't exactly the same as the one with my name but I forgot which buttons I pressed that's what happens when I start experiementing with Gimp

I first used the

button (in the main menue) to create the background....and then I used one of the filters - I think it was light-effects and from there G-Flare....just experiement around with the options those two give you - that's what I did

next I made the text with the text button

....and then I set the layer with the text to "extract streak" (not sure if that's what it's called in English - give you a picture so you know which option it was in my program)

ok...for the layers: you need to open the layer menue...then you need to find where the cursor is in this picture (and make sure that the text layer is marked in brown below it - the layer in brown is the one you're editing) :

click on the arrow and select an option...the one I used is marked by the cursor in this picture:

hope that makes sense....
