• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Any IRC users in here?

I've been checking out the CF IRC server. It seems it's pretty quiet at the moment. I think it needs a few more lurkers. :)

I wondered the same thing.

IRC. Second button, bottom left, up top. I checked it out and Musph was there. It works like IM. I suppose there is a reason for it, but I don't know what it is.

It's just for live chat with other people.

I just assume everyone knows what IRC is, sorry. :)

I think this is a sure sign I'm a g33k. I forget the rest of the world doesn't live on the internet.

IRC= Internet Relay Chat.

Real time chatting with people using an Internet Relay Chat program. Most often this program used is mIRC, which is available at http://www.mirc.com .

There are some sticky threads in this forum covering the subject.

So, when we were IRCing last night, could others view our real-time dialogue?

Everyone in the same channel can see our chat.

IRC uses a server which has a specific name. In this instance the name of the server is irc.christianforums.com. The server is accessed by a client, which can either be the java client provided in the link at the top of the forum or a seperate standalone client. The server runs a number of different channels which can be predefined or created by the users. For instance, we could create a channel called WMMC channel and use that as central meeting point to converse with each other. Currently everyone is meeting the the channeled designated as #christianforums. Private messaging is also another option in IRC and is accessed by making a DCC request to the person you wish to chat privately with.

Ideally what people do is load up their chosen IRC client and join the channel they all congregate at and remain logged in so that they are accessible to others through IRC. Most regular IRC users work this way. They log in and then minimise the client and pop in every now and again to see what's up. Chat channels are generally judged by the number of people that remain logged in and the constant flow of communication that goes on in them. To make a chat channel worthwile it's really necessary to get as many people involved in it as possible.

I just tried to connect using my IRC client. Does this server still exist?
