• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Sex is sinful. Celibacy is the way to God. Amen.

Not this again.

Sex is not sinful if done within marriage. Sex before marriage and with another woman is indeed sinful.

Sex is sinful in ALL contexts. The only way it is "permissible" and I use the word lightly, is if the end is to procreate, no more. Anything else is lust which is sin.

Again your wrong, but thanks for trying.

Are you being taught in a very conservative church or something where sex is vial and disgusting in any context? If not, it sure seems that way.

Liberal churches are spawn of Satan, so who cares what anyone else says?

PW,

Finding the right person is such a deep issue - after all, the two become one flesh - that it can hardly be encompassed in a forum post. But we can lay out some principles.

The first is to let the Lord build the house. The last thing we want is to build it ourselves, then find out it's on the wrong lot. Paul basically gives this advice in 1Cor 7 when he says to be content in whatever situation you find yourself. But he goes on to say that if an opportunity for improvement comes along, take it. This corresponds to proverbs telling us that he that "finds" a wife finds a good thing. There's a dynamic balance between being faithful and content where we're planted but also keeping an eye out for a chance to better our lives.

I think it's perceptive and honest of you to admit that you would function better with the right mate, but also that there is much opposition to the will of God in the world. I guess the only thing I could counsel would be to keep abiding in faith on the issue (Mk 11), and do not give up your vision and dreams unless you're sure the Lord is actively asking you to. And if it is Him, He will take the sorrow away. Many people give up due to the difficulty of holding on, but the Lord never directed them to do so.

Blessings.

addendum: I just finished reading this thread. All I can say at this point is wow, be careful whom you listen to. Double blessings and the Lord's protection on you! : )

1 cor 7:5
Defraud ye not one the other, except it be with consent for a time, that ye may give yourselves to fasting and prayer; and come together again, that Satan tempt you not for your incontinency.

prov 5:18-19
Let thy fountain be blessed: and rejoice with the wife of thy youth.
Let her be as the loving hind and pleasant roe; let her breasts satisfy thee at all times; and be thou ravished always with her love.

One thing that really burst my bubble is when people teach things that are against God's word. We as Christians can not take part in these false teachings they are a trick of the enemy. These teachings are meant to bind us and that is not of God, the word is to free us. These false teachings are not only hurting the Church but also hurting the institution of marriage which is of God. It has to stop!!!

1 Corinthians 7 seems to indicate that celibacy is a higher calling than the worldly and temporary institution of marriage.

God is the one who instituted marriage, how is that worldly?

"But he that is married careth for the things that are of the world, how he may please his wife." 1 Cor. 7:33

You need to read your Bible more.

I read my Bible just fine Ash, and you have no right to judge that against me.

As for your scripture quote, that doesn't mean that God is against marriage, He Himself created it. The relationship between Christ and the church is also paralleled with the marriage relationship.

I'm sorry Ash, but your interpretation is way off base.

Nope.

As a Jew, you could justify marriage as a godly thing. But as a Christian, which I am assuming you are, you cannot.

There is more against marriage than for it in the New Testament bible.

At best, it is a worldly ordeal designed for nothing more than making more little Christians and at worst, it is a sinful distraction that takes away from our walk with the Lord.

Revelations even says those who follow the Lamb (Jesus) are VIRGINS, for they have not been defiled with women.

Nothing positive about sex there, nope.
