Today is the start of a new year according to the Coptic calendar. Accordingly, in the Coptic Orthodox Church we celebrate it as a feast in which we praise God and ask for blessings and protection throughout the year. As the Coptic Orthodox Church is very much tied to the land and agricultural life in Egypt, our liturgical prayers take the seasons of worship and labor very seriously, and hence we pray today from the holy psalmody, "Bless the crown of the year, with Your goodness O Lord, the rivers and the fountains, the plants and the fruits."
Here is the celebration as it takes place in Egypt, from St. Mark Church in Cleopatra (a neighborhood of Alexandria):
May God bring much peace, hope, and prosperity to all the Orthodox believers in this blessed year.
