• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Does anyone know anything about Celebrate Recovery? I have gone to a couple of meetings. It seems like a good thing, being founded at "Saddleback" where Rick Warren of Purpose Driven Life is the Pastor.
Thanks for any info you might have.
Mike

I attend Celebrate Recovery every tuesday and Friday. Its an awesome program. The format is like this. 6:00 dinner and fellowship, 7:00 praise and worship followed by testimony or speaker. 8:00 small groups study. THe one attend Friday is attended by at least 200 people now, some saved, some not. The groups are broken to men and women. Then further to AA, OA, NA, Abuse Survivors, etc. I attend the women's a-z group. I really keeps me accountable and its the best thing that has happened to me. The one on Tuesday is much smaller, they just started the program. Maybe 20 people, so the small groups is just women's a-z (any addiction between a-z) and men's a-z. Highly recommend you attend one if you need it

My sister and mother attend 'Celebrate Recovery. I went to a meeting once. It can be very good in some ways, but there was a lot of things that were said by the leaders I didn't agree with at all. For example the guy said that some will be in recovery all their lives. I absolutely completely disagree that it will take even a significant amount of time to completely recover from even the worst traumas. I've been through a few myself, I think. I know others that have been sexually abused and raped and after truly finding Christ and getting involved in His church are completely healed, a lot better then they were before the abuse (by healed I mean they feel no shame, love their abuser, get no uncomfortable feeling when past is mentioned, no fear of relationships and intimacy, etc). Being in the state of post-abuse can be an extremely good thing. It can prepare your heart for God, give you more understanding and endurance, deepen your love and conscious desire for God, etc. And one thing that I noticed of the people at 'Celebrate Recovery is their attitude. Their attitudes are one of humility, which is sooo important. It is too easy to love someone who is humble, like a child, or even better Jesus! And it also makes it easy to love others yourself when you are humble. Humility is up there with love, you need it to experience love as much as possible.

I do not know how long you have been dealing with addiction. I have been a believer for 30 years, and in recovery for 15. For some people healing and recovery comes instantly. Others must be very careful for the rest of their lives, because their addiction is a weakness that Satan can use to bring them down again. I do not believe that recovery from any addiction is a cut and dried thing. God works differently in all of His children.
