God's Image refers to our spirit, not our physical appearance. Jesus assuming human form was because He was sent to humanity, and He is the only part of the Godhead to have a physical body.

Although when people envision God they almost always make Him the same race they are, even if the attributes of His nature are still the same as everyone else's. I mean, how likely is it that Jesus was really a blonde, fair-skinned European man, especially considering the fact that the only ones in Israel that vaguely would have looked like that were the Romans?

I personally don't believe God is a particular gender. Since He created all of mankind and we are all in His image...

God is God -- appearing as "human" in the life of Jesus was quite a "come-down"...

Going from your little post here. Sorry to sidetrack this topic but does anyone ever try to imagine what God looks like? I mean how big must he be with creating this universe that we live in? I just can't fathom how awesome He must be. Look what happened to Moses when he just caught a glimpse of God.
I'm scared in a way that when I pass that I will have to stand before Him. I guess thats what it means to fear God.

Maybe we'd rather He looked like a caveman? ;)

I agree with Qyöt27 (Sorry had to cut and paste your name)

I don't think that the image in genesis actually refers to physical appearance.

Trying to imagine what god would look like (outside of Jesus) is I think impossible.
There is no point of reference, besides Jesus. You're trying to take a limitless being and place it in the box of human senses. Our words, thoughts, and even perceptions are too limited to be able to perceive, comprehend, or express God accurately.

BTW I'm not trying to chastise or judge you for putting God in a box. I've had the same thoughts. <-- That sounds conceited but I really didn't mean for it to be.

Geez I never thought about the Spirit form. Duh. So, do you think G-d was trying to improve our looks through evolution? And really not just our looks, but our minds. Look at the advancements from the last 200, especially 100 years. But look at how long humans have been on earth. Why the sudden burst of advancements? Some of it makes me wonder if satan is behind it, to prepare for His big battle. He, himself, doesn't even know when he can "take over". Of course that is without saying that if satan is behind the technolodgy, G-d is the one who let him. I wasn't trying to say G-d didn't have control, because He ALWAYS has control.

By the way, whenever I do think about G-d's image, all I see is a cloud or just a shadow. The cloud in my mind comes from when G-d would go to the tabernacle in OT.

Very very crazy.
Louie Giglio (sp?) talked about that at the Chris Tomlin/Matt Redman concert. He presented it so awesome that we were all in awe.
I just cant comphrend how huge he must be. Just thinking about it gives you such comfort but at the same time makes you feel so small.
Everyone......just think about that for a minute. How he loves us so much but were not even a speck of dust compared to the size of His creation.

Hehehe !!! I never thought of it that way... but I guess "good looking" was defined differently "way back when" -- I mean if Britany Spears walked in on a cave-couple, they'd think an alien had arrived from outer space!!!

Father created the caveman just as you see them, in that image, and it's obvious that he created many of creatures in resemblance to man and beast, but there is no evolution, it's important to understand that. Father created everything just as we see it, some things created in the past, well... there are some bones we find of some of the creatures he created.

and father, is a ummm... father. male. ;)

i've gone through the evolution debates with the atheist over and over again. They go in circles, there is no proof of evolution. There will always be some deformation, but that is not evolution and cross breeding is not evolution.

Hello Stone,

I see we disagree a bit -- not that I think that matters one whit in the whole scheme of things...

First of all, in the scheme of this discussion, I think the word evolution has been used more along the lines of progression, not as in "did God make us from monkeys" ? To believe that humanity and the plant and animal world have not (and are not) evolving is pretty far-fetched, in my opinion.

Also, it is my understanding that "Father" is not the only Name for God. In fact, I believe all of His Names are actually descriptions...

I hope we can agree to disagree here because the vastness and glorious reality of our God is really beyond our comprehension...

And I believe that has been pointed out. If you have only "seen" God as Father, that is fine. But I think you would agree that it's not "sensible" to limit Him.

Father, Son, and Holy Spirit!!! :)

I agree God is more than just a father and male. God is not just some human up there running the show. He has caring traits of both genders. God is God. He is not human, we need to remember that. Like Linda said, He is greater than we can possibly imagine.

Amen Linda.

So if we are made in G-d's image, what are we really supposed to look like? Cavemen looked quite a bit different then we do now. We have Asians, Africans, Americans, Indians, and many more. Anyone else have wondered about this?
The idea of God looking like anything is rather blasphemous in my mind. I prefer to think in terms of what does truth look like or what does love look like. It is revealed in effect and affect rather than in sensory perception. I don't visualize Jesus as the physical manifestation of God so much as the embodiment of love, truth, mercy, compassion, etc. (I realize in my own mind they are the same)

I do not intend to derail, but, i'm curious of your thoughts, of, at the moment Jesus was baptised by John the baptist, father spoke from heaven, Jesus was standing in the river on the earth, and the spirit descended from heaven in the form of a dove.

At this moment, we have all 3 elements of the trinity together, but separate. I'm curious how you understand this?

I don't want to answer for KCDAD, but I'd be skeptical if anyone told me they really did understand it. Faith dictates that we can take it at face value and leave the rest to the Lord, does it not?
