Your source article (American Thinker) appears to have conveniently ignored a number of factors influencing current temperature increases along with the unwarranted suggestion that we can now blame it all on the Tongan underwater volcanic eruption. It's true that the volcano will/is having an effect, but it's only one of four significant influences currently raising temperatures above the norm.
- The first factor is increases in atmospheric CO2 levels resulting in the cumulative ongoing process of global warming, aka Climate Change,
- The second is the El Nino ocean cycle which is currently heading into a warming phase,
- The third is the Suns regular 11 year cycle of fluctuating energy output. We are currently headed for the warmer end of the cycle.
- The fourth - is the volcano. The amount of water vapour emitted will result in a small increase in temperature which will decrease over the next 5 or so years as the vapour dissipates.
Note that three of the four causes are one-of or cyclic while one cause (CO2) is ongoing and cumulative. This graphic illustrates the relative contributions of all four factors.

The bad news: Extreme heat is probably going to stick around for a couple of more years.
