Right....but that is what the mainstream national media means when they say "crime is down". They don't mean "relative to the last 20 years averages" they mean "from last year".

Sure. And if you're talking about a large sample size, maybe that's meaningful. But it's pretty silly to talk about a multiple hundreds of percent increase because a particular neighborhood's stats on one type of crime went from "one" to "a few." One bar brawl can swing numbers like that.

Seriously? Is that reported? Arrested? Convicted?

It's the number in your article. I'd be more surprised if the BPD didn't downgrade or fail to report crimes in order to make their lives easier.

Actually, I misread it - I thought it said that Fells jumped from 1 aggravated assault to 8, but it said that was in Little Italy. One sounded low for Fells, but that sounds more correct for Little Italy. Either way, a couple of big fights could still get you to 8.

Sure. I'm not going to argue against that. I'm not from Baltimore, I don't recall ever being in Baltimore, I just know it's reputation. It's not Gary Indiana....it's not East Cleveland or East St Louis. It's not exactly a playground though.

Plenty of parts of the city are lovely.

What are they tracking though? Murder convictions? Reported murders?
Bodies.

I'll also point out that the source of this article is original reporting from Fox 45, which has a reputation for skewed reporting on the city, which is unsurprising, given that it's the flagship station of Sinclair Media.

All due respect....you're from Baltimore, not me, but it really does look like crime is up in Baltimore....not down.

Fortunately, it looks like the cause is really only 1 problem instead of the 2 or 3 in other large cities. Your police force is understaffed and struggling to find new police. This is the general trend everywhere after BLM scammed everyone into giving them money for the occasional bad cop or wrongful shooting. Police recruitment is down....police retirement or quitting is still up.

Other cities have it worse. Many have foolishly passed laws that let "nonviolent" criminals back onto the streets in days or less without bail....and unsurprisingly, they repeat their crimes. Police end up justifiably not wasting their time even pursuing these criminals after enough releases so it doesn't get addressed. In the worst case scenarios like Oakland....the DA is some woke moron who literally avoids prosecuting almost every crime possible....even violent crimes much of the time. Even a Democrat as far left as Gavin Newsom is struggling to remove her because of the sheer level of incompetence that's devastated that city.

If crime is up in your city (as it appears to be) for the same reason it appears to be up in most big cities (demoralized, demotivated, and understaffed police) why would you believe crime is down?

Even if it I'd down for example, in 2023....it's only in comparison to 2022....not the 20 years preceding Biden's administration. It might not even actually be down in comparison to 2022 because Biden decided for some reason (I'm sure I can't guess what reason) to change how crime is reported....and the statistical measure we use based on people claiming to be victims of crime is way up....but again, because of lack of police and the damage done by the BLM scam, that's likely because they're not getting called or responding to calls.

don't know where one would go in NYC,
Brooklyn and Queens, at least when I was there. had live markets where we could buy geese, chickens, rabbits and yes! guinea pigs. My husband and I got a duck that they slaughtered and plucked but didn't dress. Can't get fresher than that.

You're saying that the article is misrepresenting the stats by cherry picking essentially?

I saw that possibility in the article so I'm not going to deny it could be misrepresenting the problem.

I posted it last night lol. I'll read it again.

That's a good measure.

Look...I know there's bias on both sides. I also know you know Baltimore and I don't. I'm from Akron originally. I know Kenmore was and probably still is a crime hotspot....and I can call up a guy and he's going to know whether crime is down, or not, or just not being reported.

The way that article was cherry picking just say it. It's written in a way that makes that a reasonable conclusion if you know the city well.

I’m saying it’s constructing a false narrative by cherry picking stats. They’re picking individual neighborhoods and highlighting fluctuations in crimes that have a generally low rate and using it to paint a picture of skyrocketing crime.

Alabama huh?

Did you know that you got small towns bombarded with Haitians too?

You can tell these residents weren't even notified and they're extremely confused about why they have to suddenly deal with this problem.

The answer is really simple. Remember back when these people got dropped off at Martha's Vinyard? They weren't given money houses and jobs there. Nope.

Alright. I'll take it on your word. You've claimed to be in Baltimore about as long as I can recall on this forum.

That's because there were no houses and jobs to give them.

Dependent on a robust tourism industry, the island’s population swells from about 20,000 year-round residents to about 150,000 during the summer months. With that shift comes a dramatic drop in jobs in the off-season. The migrants arrived just as the busy season ended and during one of the worst affordable housing shortages in the island’s history.

I'm pretty sure that goats and chickens tend to be the main sacrificial animals but I'm not sure.

Voodoo doesn't seem to be as consistent as other religions.
Well I just watched a video of a man drinking blood from a cat. Maybe it would be better if many people were more aware of what actually happens in this world,

We've had videos posted on Facebook of dozens of Hispanics being dropped off from buses at a Walmart. They had a tent city on the land next to the Walmart that has been cleared out a couple of times but keeps popping back up.
We have a war going on between black gangs and Mexicans. They have robbed several Mexican businesses and killed four people during the robberies.
I haven't heard of us getting any Haitians yet.

How many were there, 50? And they couldn't handle that?

That religion being demonic is an opinion that cannot be factually proven.
Vodou in fact is demonic.

Vodou ethical standards correspond to its sense of cosmological order,[71] with a belief in the interdependence of things playing a role in Vodou approaches to ethical issues.[175] Serving the lwa is central to Vodou and its moral codes reflect the reciprocal relationship that practitioners have with these spirits;[176]

We are not to have a relationship with deceiving spirits.
