  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

When I asked my father about being a Catholic or Protestant Christian, he said that Catholics don't do right in following the Bible and what the Lord has commanded of us.

Reasons:

- They use rosary beads in their worship, and in the Bible God frobids that. He used the golden calf as an example, and said that God expects us to worship him through out heart and souls alone.

- The priest they call father that you confess to he was also talkinga bout, and how once Jesus came that whole structure was abolished with priests and clergy, so there's another thing that isn't right.

- Another big thing he said was that no where in the Bible does it say to pray to Blessed Virgin Mary, yet they do.

Does his arguments he presented to me have any validity?

GOOD job Michie.

Good job Catholic Answers. I found it invaluable in my studies during conversion to wipe away a lot of those anti-Catholic fables thrown about so freely. :)

But thanks anyway. :D

It's a Mass.

We have readings from the Bible, and then the consecration and lots of prayers! (The whole Mass is a prayer :) )

where bread and wine are truly consecrated into the Body and Blood of Jesus for us to receive.

that sums it up.

this is a good order of Mass to know what words are said and such :)

How is chucrch server conducted in a Catholic Church?

We have readings from the OT, epistles, and the gospel. The priest gives a homily, and then we celebrate and receive the Lord's Body and Blood in the Eucharist. There is nothing on earth greater than that.

For the "What?" I was talking about the person you confess to in a box...

For the "huh" I totally butchered that while typing. Lol. I meant church service, but from the past couple posts I have found out there isn't any singing, which is my favorite type of worship.

we have four hymns.

one at the beginning, when the priest comes in, one during offertory, one while receiving the Eucharist, and one when Mass is ended.

plus there's things during Mass to sing, such as the psalm, the Our Father, and a few others, which aren't entire 'songs' though

Oh, ok. What I meant by singing is, like, 30-45 minutes of only singing, and getting up and clapping, and songs that aren't all "formal".

I confess to God through the priest. Why? Because Jesus said so . . . in fact, it was one of the first things he told them after his Resurrection.

But is that the Lord's favorite form of worship? Or does He desire to come and meet His people - descending to meet us, Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity? Is worship for us or for Him?

no... that's a protestant tradition.

i dont like that sort of thing at Mass.. if ya wanna sing and clap praise and worship stuff at home or with friends, that's all good... and appropriate.

:)
