Viterbo University is a Catholic School in La Crosse, Wisconsin, and my alma mater. In the children's section of their library, they have a pride display of children's books.

One book is called "It Feels Good to Be Yourself: A Book About Gender Identity." It's designed to teach children as young 4 about concepts of transgenderism, non-binary, cisgender, etc.

Another book is called Desert Queen. It encourages boys as young as 7 to cross dressing as drag queens.

I've often seen children on campus because they have a Boys & Girls club on campus.

It's depressing to see innocent children targeted with this. I've contacted the Archbishop (I cant find the Bishop's contact) and didn't hear back. I contacted the school and just got a generic response.

Please consider joining me in contacting the Bishop and library:

Teaching children to imagine themselves as someone else has always been an effective tool to have the rudiments of “empathy“ in place when their brains are old enough to begin to process this complex emotional state, (12-15).

Do children actually have unsupervised check-out privileges at the library? Otherwise, the books belong in the library of a college that, among other things, trains teachers. I went to a small RC liberal arts college myself and there were plenty of anti-catholic books in the library. Why do you suppose that was?

I would like a link, that doesn't over exaggerate. I'm guessing they are just reading a few books. I'm surprised a Catholic school is doing this.By the way. If you don't want your children to attend. Don't send them .

Brick & mortar libraries are going to be dinosaurs anyways, more and more libraries are going to have the bulk of their catalogs online or audio-formatted.
The discussion of “what do we want in our catalog?” will ever be a source of contention but that’s the nature of communal endeavors, innit?

Still, it doesn't say much for the college students if they have to be protected from children's books with LGBT themes. At the RC college I went to the students were morally and intellectually much more robust than that.

You disapprove of teachers having access to books? How are they going to form nuanced counters to the information contained if they do not know what is in the books? The answer should never be to dogmatically oppose something without any knowledge of it. Otherwise you end up making mistakes like torturing Galileo and burning innocent old women.

Dang, this is in my state.

Books should come with warning labels. George Orwell's "1984" is one of my favorite sci-fi books, which I have read at age 13, so here is a hypothetical warning label for "1984", though I would rate it 13+. Transgender and sexual books should have warning labels, and should be placed behind a counter manned by librarians, and have an age rating of 16-18+ as well, depending on age of consent in the local area.

What would be the nature of these “warning labels”?

Well, these labels would be used for parents, if going to the library with kids, just as DVDs have age ratings. The warning labels would not have any harm. Also, kids themselves could read the warning labels, and choose to heed or ignore the label. Anything over say 16+, a kid would have to get permission to check out by the school librarian, and show a form of age verification, such as if school IDs had the kid's year of birth. Books that are 18+, kids would need a signed parent permission slip under this hypothetical system. So, no books will be banned, but instead will have warning labels stuck to the back cover or something.

Does this sound like a good compromise to please both sides of the argument? Mind you, most kids would not follow the warning labels but hey, that is better than nothing. Anything sexual can be stored behind the librarian's counter.

The labels could be made out of sticker material, or printed on special "library edition" books, if such a system were implemented.

You’re going to want to use the google machine for “Tipper Gore” WRT “warning labels on music” that was all the rage 40ish years ago.

Ooh, I have heard of the Tipper sticker. It was developed in the 1980-1990s as a way of labeling if music has explicit lyrics in it, leading to the black and white striped "Parental Advisory, Explicit Content" sticker. However, this sticker worked counter productively in some ways. Ironically, more youngsters, especially those into the rock and hip-hop scenes wanted music with the Explicit Content stickers, according to Jon Wiederhorn.

Jon Wiederhorn from MTV News suggested that artists benefited from the label and noted that younger customers interested in explicit content could more easily find it with a label attached.

If I were an adventurous kid I’d only look for the books that have the warning label.

Haha, if I was adventurous, I would also only look for the books for the warning label as well. Luckily, I am the opposite, and rarely go for rated MA TV shows, so for books, I would go for the ones meant for general adult or young adult audience, without the sexual stuff.

Sorry. I don’t think drag Queen story hour is appropriate, but I still will let the parents make their own decisions regarding their children.

I’m so sick of LGBT nonsense infiltrating MY CHURCH and I WILL speak out against it.

Amen. Same here, I would speak out against this also, or place a huge 18+ warning label on that Catholic university and library, if I had the means.

I will pray hard for La Crosse, WI to be cleaned up, and would also like to pray for the Bishop over there, whoever his name is.
