  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

there are married people who are connected with religious orders
they are called tertiaries or members of the third order

I don't object to that -- just the coercion thing.

also, your implications in your last paragraph are extremely ignorant

Aside from you ad hominem insult - where is your response to the facts?

Bob

Assumption of Mary

Given that it's a post-biblical event (if it happened) why would you expect it to be in the bible?

If Mary was 100 when she was assumed -- then... maybe post Bible.

But as it is - it appears to be without Bible support.

in Christ,

Bob

Awesome! I pray the Lord will richly bless her with His truths.

And do not believe everything you hear, Calvin never condemned infant baptism. Some people make claims without actually looking to what people actually taught.

also, as you probably already know, God's word does not teach baptismal regeneration. We are saved by faith alone. In Christ alone.

You have things backwards. Everything in the Bible is consistent with Church Teaching.
Not even close. And we are walking through the many errors and false practices in this thread, sit back, relax and enjoy.

The bible was never intended to be a complete user's manual.
The bible is complete. It is not to be added to, remember the warnings in the book of Revelation?

If it was intended so, I will wait patiently for your proof.
Like I said, sit back and relax, were going on a journey.

I don't think you need to explain. Mary certainly died before the last of the Bible books was written, but even if she did not, there's no reason that the Scriptures couldn't have made some mention of an event of the magnitude ofo the 'Assumption' whether or not it was a future event. The New Testament is simply full of references to events that were yet to happen.

Yes. And not to be repetitious, but the most important point probably is that that verse doesn't make a case for Purgatory anyway. We've both pointed that out.
Yes.

And that is why they tore themselves away as a Christian church and became apostate. And a fine example of all the cults.

I have several questions.

1. Given the Catholic opposition to sola scriptura - would it matter to them if these doctrines were not in the Bible?

2. Given the Catholic view of their own magesterium - would it matter to them if the non-Catholics found that Catholic doctrine contradicts the Bible?

3. What could be said on this thread that would matter to Catholics when it comes to these doctrines?

in Christ,

Bob

NASB
2 For there are eunuchs who were born that way from their mother’s womb; and there are eunuchs who were made eunuchs by men; and there are also eunuchs who made themselves eunuchs for the sake of the kingdom of heaven. He who is able to accept this, let him accept it

AKJV

12 For there are some eunuchs, which were so born from their mother’s womb: and there are some eunuchs, which were made eunuchs of men: and there be eunuchs, which have made themselves eunuchs for the kingdom of heaven’s sake. He that is able to receive it, let him receive it.

ASV
12 For there are eunuchs, that were so born from their mother's womb: and there are eunuchs, that were made eunuchs by men: and there are eunuchs, that made themselves eunuchs for the kingdom of heaven's sake. He that is able to receive it, let him receive it.

YLT
12 for there are eunuchs who from the mother's womb were so born; and there are eunuchs who were made eunuchs by men; and there are eunuchs who kept themselves eunuchs because of the reign of the heavens: he who is able to receive [it] -- let him receive.'

Mmmm...Eunuchs instead of celibate. I think your "Catholic" translation might be a bit biased.

1. The resurrection of Lazarus - John 11
2. Moses and Elijah on the mt of Transfiguration Matt 17.
3. The virgin birth.
4. Christ walks on the water.
5. Some people with leprosy healed.
6. A fish had some money in its mouth.

You would think that "Mary was the only sinless human apart from Christ and so like Christ she was bodily assumed into heaven" would have made it into that list.

in Christ,

Bob

Oh no doubt!

What a play on emotions, what a landing strip our emotions and senses are for the enemy. The RCC is in such a sad state.

Mark 7:6-13 "in vain do they worship Me teaching for doctrine the commandments of men".

I think that sort of problem matters to God and there is no such thing as "nothing can go wrong" in that warning given by Christ.

in Christ,

Bob

Show me where in scripture it teaches we can add to it.

Your question is lacking and vague. Of course we can believe other things but it all comes back to God's word, there it is to be filtered through.
