  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

The real cases of this stuff are sad, pathetic, pitiful, creepy, and icky.

The TV show is scripted, IMHO.
Yeah, after I found out The Hills was scripted I stopped watching shows on MTV :sorry:

I don't really know why anyone would agree to it. It would think it would be a very embarrassing experience for both parties.

I am generally not a fan of reality TV, but I've really bought into this one. I would imagine that most of the people who write in have seen the documentary and for whatever reason, are okay with the circumstances surrounding the meet-up. I really want to have my brother question that girl about how real the show is. I think that makes me the crazy one though, haha.
Yes, do find out if you can! The fact that you know of a real person that was on the show does speak for its validity.

Has anyone here watched the movie or the TV show?

If you haven't, the premise is basically about two people who have met online. They've generally been talking for quite some time, and things have turned romantic. One of them always wants to meet while the other always puts it off. I've never seen an episode where the person who didn't want to meet is actually who he/she claimed to be.

These people steal photos of other people and pretend to be someone else for months or even YEARS. Then they expect the person that they've been talking to to forgive them and they'll live happily ever after. It's weird. And creepy. And weird.

I don't think I could ever forgive someone for doing something like that. Of course, I don't think I would let myself get that invested in someone without meeting them first either.

Thoughts?

Yeah that would be a tough one. To deal with, but eventually after romance blooms usually you can't wait to see each other unless like you said... someone is not 1. ready or 2... a fake.

Eventually there are red flags as time passes. Don't ignore those red flags. Trust me I know.

I stopped watching MTV after they replaced the music videos with all these (scripted or not) TV shows. Wasn't the same. #oldpersoncard

I felt sorry for Angela, the original catfish, that her real life must've been so draining that she had to create this completely different one to "lead," even for a little while. The MTV show? Creepy so far - except for "Kim and Matt."
